3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at the brewery October 2014. Pours a cloudy copper with thick frothy beige head. The aroma is spice, toasted grain, smoke. Medium body, similar flavors to nose, light finish, good.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft pour pint at Special Brews. Cool to find this one laying around. I would have expected to see this as a taproom exclusive. Lucky for me I have had a couple chances to see those beers. Pours a muddy brown color worth almost no head. I love that this style is disliked so much, yet I think they are great. Maybe they are misunderstood. Smokey, oak and malt aroma. Very cool flavor, with a toasty, slight smoke, paired with a modest amount of sweetness. Not offended on this one. Actually quite nice.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft at SB. Pours a murky dark brown with a scant white head. Sticky sweet bacony nose. Sticky thick body with minimal carb. Sweet bacon mid palate. Heavy and cloying. Such a rad reference for that name and label, though.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
"Chestnut colored, full bodied. This doppelbock has all the bready goodness I expect from the style with a not-as-subtle-as -advertised smoke aroma and flavor...which was awesome. Great new beer, I’d definitely get this often if I could."

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
A little heavy on the smoke, without much left over. Reddish orange pour and ok head and lacing here. Some light caramel. Tap at Black Squirrel.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Hazy dark amber under a thick and sticky foamy off beige head. The nose smells of peppered bacon and toast and damp wood. Big flavor of meaty grease and smokey camp wood with some burnt toast crust and sweet earthiness. It’s not as smokey as some other smoked beers, so it’s a bit more agreeable.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tap. Pours clear brown with off-white head. Aroma is smoked meats, nutty but mostly heavy smoke. Taste is very smokey...silky, smooth, easy, a but thin but overall good.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured from tap to glass. Dark copper head with light tan head. Atoms is smoke, caramel, straw, hickory. Mouthfeel is great with moderate body and good carbonation, taste is sweet initially with a tannic following and umami finish, overall this is a wonderful smoked brew that isn’t too overpowering!

Catching up on weird old ticks. This was a particular smoky and smooth dopplebock. Really tasty.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at Avery. Amber and clear appearance with a tan head, light lacing and active carbonation. Aroma of caramel malts, toffee, smoke, light spices and earthy hops. Similar flavor, malty, sweet, earthy and lightly smoky with mild bitterness. Medium plus body. It was OK, nothing great.
