Re-named BA Meph Addict.
Our very own Parker, of the cartoon and cat loving variety, created this cult classic character back in our 17th season. Appearing in several episodes under another stage name that was deemed inappropriate, our executive producers and editors decided that a name change and further character development—a 4-month Hiatus in bourbon barrels—were necessary to satisfy our most ardent and demanding viewers.

No third-wave, light-roasted, Panamanian Geisha here. This is Maillard-to-the-max, dark-roasted coffee beer, aged in wood. It will give you the yips. And a most pleasant buzz.

12 oz bottle; Batch 1, 17.81% ABV. Aroma consists of chocolate, leather, coffee, coconut, bourbon, licorice. Pours opaque black with a two finger dark tan head that reduces to a collar and skiff of foam after a few minutes. Taste is sweet (not cloying) and boozy with a bitter finish. Along with all aroma deScriptors, I’m getting some cough drop, a faint vegetal character that isn’t displeasing at all, which is unusual for me. Velvety mouthfeel, full body, tight carbonation. Awesome!

12 oz. bottle from Total Wine, Chesapeake, VA. Pours black with a rich cinnamon brown head. Aroma of chocolate and coffee mostly with hints of bourbon and wood. Bourbon is certainly present in the taste with booze, vanilla, oak, and coconut flavors complemented by rich roasted coffee and dark chocolate. Some dark fruit even makes its way to the party. Awesome. As expected there is plenty of bitterness and warmth that lingers on the palate. An outstanding barrel-aged imperial stout.

Black with creamy brown head. Rich aroma. Coffee, full but smooth bourbon barrel, chocolate, caramel, hint of dark fruit. No booze. Flavor follows. Full smooth luscious body. Finishes wonderfully warming, no burn or booze, but certainly a big strong brew. Nice balance throughout. There o’s a lot of everything here (bourbon barrel, coffee, dark chocolate, caramel) but Nothing dominates. A really nice treat.

Bottle. Pours a near-black color with a moderate dark head on there. Nose is has a lot of the roasting to it you expect from a stout, but is layered with bourbon and chocolate and some subtle hints of coffee. Taste has a roasty bitterness to it up front, but with a slight hint of sweetness on the finish. Feels very smooth and warming.

Fantastic beer. I have no idea how they hid the alcohol @ 17.8 % ABV but they did. Starts out smooth with a hit of espresso and finishes with bourbon and malty goodness. Fantastic beer that trumps Goose Island BCBS all day long. Well done.

UPDATED: OCT 12, 2012 At 2012 Avery Strong Ale Fest. Black with a thin tan head. Big outlandish aroma of dark roast coffee, bakers chocolate, vanilla-oak, with a touch of pecan-like nuttiness and caramel. Taste is gigantic and palate slaughtering. Dark chocolate, dark coffee, oak, lots of french vanilla, caramel, and brown sugar-bourbon, finishing with big fat tones of oak, coffee, and chocolate. Lots of barrel booziness but also lots of mocha java sweetness.

Some kind stranger allowed me a nice serving from his glass at Avery. Whoever you are, thanks! Big, huge beer. All bourbon, chocolate and coffee band that’s A-OK by me!

This beer pours a thick black color with a small brown head that fades to a minimal ring quickly. The aroma blends dark chocolate, coffee beans, molasses, and raisins. The taste is mildly bitter, mildly umami, slightly boozy, and slightly sweet with an aftertaste similar to dark chocolate covered coffee beans. The palate fuses an oily texture, nearly flat carbonation, and a medium-full body.

Yep, making sure this is the right one...batch 1, 17.81%, stout with coffee aged in Bourbon Barrels. Bottled Oct 28, 2014 in a 12 oz bottle. Poured in a Mad Elf tulip glass. Pours black with significant brown head...head makes cool paisley swirlies. Aroma of coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla, dark roasted malts. Significant carbonation and mouthfeel. Flavors of dark roasted malts, bourbon, brown sugar, milk chocolate, wood, coffee, minerals, earth. Overall very rich, bold, complex, big and a touch rough but overall balanced and enticing. Alcohol...yes, it’s there, but the coffee aroma and rich taste of chocolate and pure yumminess stand out wonderfully for a late nighter and/or potential desert (or dessert) drink.
