4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
On draft at Churchkey in D.C.
Served alongside Avery Mephistopheles.
The beer is black with a quarter inch of oily, dark beige head. The aroma offers a potent dose of rich coffee, followed by light booze, roast, espresso, malt, chocolate. What a bold flavor! Rich and intense with a grand coffee presence. Alcohol warmth in the finish, but not nearly the heat I was expecting and even fearing from a beer of this stature. Full bodied with moderately low carbonation. A delightful brew to sip and savor. I’m so glad I finally came across this one. Delicious.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
On tap at EBF 3/16/13.
Smells of coffee in spades, but there is a roasty and caramel malty sweetness underneath that works really well to counter the bitter coffee flavor. the big abv is brilliantly masked, I love this beer.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at Southern Sun. Pours a dark, opaque brown with a finger of quickly settling light brown head. Sheets of thin lacing. Aroma is strong roasted coffee with significant alcohol. Flavor is rich, slightly bitter, roasted coffee up front, espresso, toffee, and dark chocolate. Hints of rum and stone fruit. Roasted, coffee, and bitter finish that lingers. Incredible masking of alcohol, can hardly be tasted under all the coffee and malts. Soft carbonation, very full body, and full, thick texture. Warm finish, alcohol is more noticeable in feeling than in the taste. Super rich, strong, smooth, the ultimate coffee beer and an incredible rendition of an already amazing brew. Liked it so much I had to have a few.

Opaque black beer, no real head. Light palate, fairly smooth. Sweet black coffee. A little sweet lactose. Underneath are sweet red berry fruits. Nicely joined up and smooth. Hides the abv very well. Tasty treat!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at the Avery Tap Takeover at The Common Table.
The beer pours a pitch black color with a brown head. The aroma is full of coffee with some roasted malt thrown in. The coffee is extremely intense in the aroma, as well as the flavor. This tastes like I imagine iced espresso with a shot of alcohol would taste. There is also some roasted malt and chocolate but this is really all about the coffee. Medium to thick mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Very, very nice.

Black with a khaki head. Hella coffee, espresso, roasted beans, more coffee. Very smooth on the palate, it’s like drinking coffee with alcohol.

3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft. The aroma is espresso with boozy menthol. It looks fantastic. The taste is dark malt and coffee with no alcohol. Very good for how much alcohol.
