At 2012 Avery Strong Ale Fest. Murky dark brown with a pillowy light khaki head. Very fresh hoppy aroma--like fresh from the vine floral and lemony with a leafy green-ness--dominates the nose but lets just a wee bit of toffee through. Taste is very similar to the nose; loads of fresh from the vine leafy hops, full of floral green lupulin, but also relents at the finish to let through a yeasty chewy tone with gentle tones of earthy toffee. Finishes very fresh hoppy, just like the majority of the flavor.

ROGUE (1360) - Newark, Delaware, USA - JAN 10, 2012
On tap at Avery taproom (GABF 2011). Pours a hazy golden amber color with an off white head that left thick sheets of lacing. Aroma has caramel malts with a big bouquet of fresh citrusy and herbal hops. Taste is an explosion of dank, resiny hops over a light sweet candy malt backbone. Creamy body that is nicely carbonated with a long bitter finish.

On tap at the brewery. Pours with a hazy orange hued body with a big frothy tan head. Aromas are huge, grassy, resiny dry hop character, spicy, citrus dank and minty. A bit of alcohol. Virtually all hops in the nose. Flavors are really spicy and dank hops, grassy, citrusy, caramel. Good. Medium bubbles, bitter and dry.

Draft at Hops and Pies.  Hazy orange amber pour.  Aroma of floral hops.  Taste is more like a IIPA than barleywine. Good beer.

Draft at falling rock. Pours orange with an inch of white foam. Big hops on the tongue and nose. I’m not sure how this qualifies as a barleywine. It feels more like a double IPA.

Tap. Pours hazy orange with a large, frothy off-white head, medium-long retention with great lacing. Aroma is fragrant citrus and pine hops, fruity esters, alcohol, earthy and herbal notes with meal malt. Flavor is malt, heavy hops (floral, pine), medium bitterness, alcohol notes, and a dry finish. Full body, medium warmth and carbonation.

Draught. Intense dank hop aroma. Pine resin and citrus. Cloudy amber to orange with a thin white head. Intense hop character. It feels like putting a hop pellet on my tongue. So rich and resinous. Then caramel malt sweetness and woody notes. So balanced yet so over the to. Each sip requires reflection. Syrup thick, and just enough carbonation. Surprisingly free of astringency or biting hop bitterness. This is serious business.

Tap @ Boulder Strong Ale Festival. Ruby orange appeaance with a cream colored head. Big piney hoppiness and big maltiness thats slightly fruity. Very strong piney, floral hoppy flavor with the medium deep malts playing a less significant role. Somewhat creamy and somewhat slick mouthfeel. I’m not a huge fan.
