4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
12oz bottle, bought from Beer Run in Virginia for $12. Batch 1, bottled 3/27/12. Black color. Awesome thin dark brown head. Little bits of lace everywhere. Amazing aroma. Big vanilla, bourbon barrel; some chocolate brownie and roasted malt. With a beer this big, my first thought often is "how harsh is the alcohol?". For 17.5, this is amazingly sippable. No burn, just a big warmth. You notice big alcohol, but thereís a fantastic flavor throughout the whole thing to back it up (that is much like what I described in the aroma, but more alcoholic). Big body, pretty chewy. Viscous for sure. Silky is right. Light stickiness in the finish, but I donít mind it at all. Part of that super-long vanilla roasty bitter chocolate warming aftertaste. Great sweet taste, with a bitter finish. This beer is nuts. If it wasnít $12 a bottle, this would be a regular choice for me. Very likely, the tastiest brew Iíve had over 17% ABV. Love it.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle shared at CBC - Clerkenwell, London. Many thanks to Seth for sharing! Pours oily black with a creamy, tan head. Aroma holds alcohol, dark malts, roasted malts, burnt toast, rich chocolate. Big sweet flavor with robust bittersweet chocolate, moderate roast, a bit of alcohol punch, brown bread. Full bodied with fine carbonation and a chewy mouthfeel. Warm finish with oily chocolate, dirt, brownies, raisins, decent roast, rich chocolate cake. Awesome. Great depth. A hell of a beer.

Sampled at FOBAB í12. Oily black color with a minimal head. Roasted malts burnt and sweet in the aroma. Some oak and dark chocolate coming through. Dry roasted malt and chocolate flavors that are sweet and really roasted. Good stuff. 8/4/8/4/16

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Appearance: oily black with very small dark mocha head that dissipates quickly to almost nothing. Aroma: big dark chocolates, deep roasted malts, oak, vanilla, dark fruit, no bourbon or booziness really at all. Taste: sweet dark fruitiness up front with bitter dark chocolate coming in and very sweet molasses, vanilla, and bourbon notes in the end and a sugary and coffee bitter aftertaste. Mouthfeel: very creamy and slick thick with very little carbonation. Overall: the alcohol doesn't announce itself like you might expect. The sweetness is a bit heavy, but I think that's where the bourbon and booze is shining through. Looking forward to trying again with some age.

Bottle. Pours black with a small beige head. Great aroma of chocolate, brown sugar/molasses, bourbon, dark fruit, oak and a hint of vanilla. Very smooth and great flavor with notes of chocolate, light coffee, oak, bourbon, dark fruit, roasted malts, light smoke, and light vanilla. Similar finish with just a touch of alcohol. Tasty, warming and smooth. Hard to believe its almost 18 percent abv.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Poured from a 12 ounce bottle. Pours thick, syrupy dark brown to ruby with a great tan head of foam. Super sweet and malty with some nice cocao nibs. Hearty vanilla and graham crackers come through in the taste. Velvety and creamy on the tongue. I didnít really expect to like this nearly as much as I did. This is one hell of a beer.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Aaron - thanks! Deepest black pour with a dark tan froth of foam that fades to a slick. Aroma is bourbon with vanilla and heavy, candied sugar sweet malt. Taste is bourbon, vanilla, candied sugar, caramel, molasses, burning alcohol, and toffee. Coating mouthfeel. With the high ratings I was curious but this basically played out like a slightly better version of Averyís bonk you over the head, double digit ABV malt bomb uber imperial beers.
