COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Jacob Spears, our 6th Great Grand Uncle, is credited as the first distiller to label his whiskey "Bourbon." He built his distillery in Bourbon County, Kentucky in 1790 - 203 years before began brewing. While obviously a bit too late to produce Uncle Jacobís wash, weíve instead created something far more complex. In his honor, we present this robust, silky smooth, full-bodied and altogether extremely American rendition of an Imperial Stout aged for 6 months in the very finest bourbon barrels. This explains a lot about our penchant for big brews! Itís in our blood!
Brewed with Rocky Mountain Water, Malter Barley, Flaked Oats, Hops and Yeast.

Scary good. Beware! Huge ABV that is well disguised in this balanced beast of a stout. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From a bottle. Pours almost black with a fizzy light brown head. Tastes like strong, sweet, thick syrup. Very boozy, like bourbon with hints of rum, raisin, and chocolate. Medium body and low carbonation. Very pungent flavor. Astringent smell of rubbing alcohol and bourbon, with molasses, chocolate, and raisins.

Aroma of vanilla, toasted oak, milk chocolate, espresso, coffee beans, cinnamon and subtle bourbon. Appears a pitch black with a mocha colored foam rim and heavy lacing. Massive booze overwhelms the palate with an explosion of flavors including milk chocolate, thick roasted barley, syrupy molasses, dark chocolate, burnt caramel, coffee beans and espresso. The barrel notes shine through on the finish along with massive, massive booze, bourbon, burning booze and residual chocolate. Overall, I think this is the 2014 batch so itís ridiculously boozy. That aside, itís really well done and itís very balanced. A+ rating. Definitely a sipper.

Almost like taking a bite of an old plum made of molasses, very thick and syrupy going down, total coffee aftertaste. Bottled 2/4/2014 this batch is a slightly lower 14.83%abv than what was listed here on RateBeer. Buy it if youíre lucky enough to find it; it makes other stouts weep their weak, watery tears.

2yr old 2012 bottle. Pours black with a minor reddish hue. The head is a semi mocha brown and ends up sticking to my glass. The aroma is of sweet bourbon booze, medium to heavy oat notes, roasted malts, oak, mild to medium vanilla, sweet carmel aromas, and subtle chocolate malts. A very pleasant aroma for 17-18 percent. In tasting I picked up on sweet but heavy bourbon booze, molasses like sugar, mild roasted malts, mild carmel or possibly toffee like flavor, and medium vanilla. The finish is of a semi sweet but potent booze with an enjoyable dryness. Overall this was impressive considering the abv and that it held an enjoyable yet complex flavor. A must try.

Bottle. Clear dark reddish brown with a small brown head. Aromas of bourbon, dark chocolate, light vanilla, oak, roasted malt, dark fruit and caramel. Flavor is sweet upfront with bourbon, caramel, chocolate, vanilla, and dark fruits, light oak, roasted malt and booze on the end. Full bodied, oily and smooth.

bottle from tleaver33, many thanks as usual. pours dark opaque brown, slim khaki head. nose of bourbon, vanilla, chocolate. taste has a fudge brownie essence. bourbon, oak. big burly body, but smooth like velvet. high abv is well hidden but hits in the head like a steel toed boot to the crotch. yup, lets get stoopid.
