COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Jacob Spears, our 6th Great Grand Uncle, is credited as the first distiller to label his whiskey "Bourbon." He built his distillery in Bourbon County, Kentucky in 1790 - 203 years before began brewing. While obviously a bit too late to produce Uncle Jacobís wash, weíve instead created something far more complex. In his honor, we present this robust, silky smooth, full-bodied and altogether extremely American rendition of an Imperial Stout aged for 6 months in the very finest bourbon barrels. This explains a lot about our penchant for big brews! Itís in our blood!
Brewed with Rocky Mountain Water, Malter Barley, Flaked Oats, Hops and Yeast.

12 oz. bottle 2013. Pours oily black like dirty motor oil and shows a quick tan tight head that dissipates to a thin ring. Aroma has nice bourbon and roasted malt hidden chocolate subtle vanilla marsh mellow and some woodiness. Taste is boozy bourbon bitterness with some soy maybe some rye and dark bitter chocolate roasted malt some dark fruit like prune and raisin. Palate is full slick sticky warming and dry. Just awesome even if Iím drinking this with Greg at 10a.m. Just awesome!

Bottled 27MAR12 Beautiful beer, dark mahogany with cherry hues and a persistent etched surface sheet of dark mocha foam. Itís funny, people consistently concede the absence of carbonation in higher ABV beers, I donít buy it and this is another confirmation of my hypothesis. The smells of prunes, dates and figs with liquor infused vanilla and fine chocolate truffles alongside leather and rich caramels. Hints of smoky molasses up in the nose as well. Very pretty. Flavor backs up the nose with molasses, bourbon, oak, cocoa, rich sweet vanilla and toasted sugars. A good boozy character warms the throat and leather character brings it all together. Full and silky body with nice, fine carb and a good solid - long lasting finish that runs the duration of five minutes (this is a long time for those actually looking at the clock). Really fine beer that I plan to buy the rest from the store I found this at. Really outstanding. Serving type: bottle 07-29-2012

Pours a very dark, viscous black with a barely-there, mocha-colored head. Aroma: chocolate, caramel, toffee, red wine, and prunes. Tastes sweet, tart, and lightly tannic. Flavors of concentrated red wine, prunes, bourbon barrel, chocolate, and deliciousness. Awesome! Boozy! Cellaring some more.

12 ounce bottle. A major want! Pours a pure black color with a small brown head after a big, initially pretty frothy. A great nose of cocoa, barrel and dark chocolates. Big flavors of more chocolate, intense sweet dark fruit, bourbon, more oak, some red win type notes, heat, oat. Loads of sweetness and heat, but damn it is good.

Bottle @ home. Thanks vaiz! Aroma flows to my nose as vaiz poens the bottle over a meter away. Chocolate, caramel and vanilla hit the nose. A closer look brings big burned molasses and caramel, liquorice, caramel, vanilla, (medicinal) alcohol, roast, etc etc. Flavour is huge burning roasty chocolate liquorice rocketfuel malt caramel bonanza. Later bourbon, wood, caramel, malt etc etc. Lingers for ever. Keeps evolving. Hefty though.

Bottle from Beverager4less, San Diego. Black pour, thin tan head. Aroma is huge bourbon, chocolate, coffee, burnt malts, warming alcohol, boozy but well balanced. Flavor is warming, roasty, sweet chocolate, some bitter coffee and a hint of licorice. Mostly sweet warming roasted goodness. Heavy and smooth, but still in your face. Great brew, although it lacks some balance.

From Douglas A: Midnight in the middle of nowhere black. Mocha head that fades. N: 80% dark chocolate, subtle bourbon, caramel, vanilla is well represented. Raisin and prune. Licorice. T: Dark fruit and chocolate. Slightly sour from the bourbon but not infected. Some coffee bitterness. Oak is huge. M: Wow, lots of booze. Sticky and heavy. O: Very fruity and potent. Normal for Avery to go overboard on their stouts, in my estimation. Flavor is strong, too.
