This was really good. I was expecting something way more boozy at 17%. Get it if you can.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
From bottle to tulip. Thanks to Anne for the bottle from the brewpub. Overt vanilla, prominent molasses and rye with strong alcohol presence on the nose. Moderate alcohol heat. Pours deep, deep brown with brown highlights. Large brown head with minimal lacing. Taste is molasses, chocolate and fig. Faint tar, bourbon and mole sauce. Viscous pour covers the mouth like a velvety tapestry. Finishes surprisingly quickly. As it warmed, the alcohol was more pronounced.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pour is almost as black as they get, with a thin, dark brown head. Aroma do bourbon and chocolate. Flavor is very balanced bourbon with sweetness and toasty backbone. Lots of creamy chocolate and not as sweet as most beers this high in Abv. Alcohol is well hidden. Very good beer.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
The quintessential bourbon stout. Might have bought two and aged one, but this was a gift from Anthony. Very powerful, very tasty.

Inky black pour with one finger of dark tan head. Nose shows wood, bourbon, alcohol, fruit skins, and molasses. Warming alcohol in the flavor with fruit skins and wood. Apple shows on the finish, sharp.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz. Pour is midnight black with a small ring of bubbles. Nose is raisin liqueur, oak, soy and chocolate. Tastes of mint chocolate, alcohol, raisin and toasted grain. Heavy body is decently balanced and has low-medium carbonation. The big abv is fairly well hidden. Pretty straightforward aroma and flavors are none too complex, but the effort to make a huge beer is duly noted.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle shared by a friend. Darkest brown pour with a thick tan head. Aroma of bourbon, alcohol, chocolate and roast. Boozy flavor with chocolate and roast before a bourbon finish. Bourbon is the most prevalent character in both the nose and the flavor, but at least the beer is big enough to stand up to the barrel and throw off its own characteristics. Certainly not barrel-aged coca-cola like a lot of attempts from other breweries that arenít as experienced with barrel-aging.
