COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Jacob Spears, our 6th Great Grand Uncle, is credited as the first distiller to label his whiskey "Bourbon." He built his distillery in Bourbon County, Kentucky in 1790 - 203 years before began brewing. While obviously a bit too late to produce Uncle Jacobís wash, weíve instead created something far more complex. In his honor, we present this robust, silky smooth, full-bodied and altogether extremely American rendition of an Imperial Stout aged for 6 months in the very finest bourbon barrels. This explains a lot about our penchant for big brews! Itís in our blood!
Brewed with Rocky Mountain Water, Malter Barley, Flaked Oats, Hops and Yeast.

2014-04-20. Black body with a modest tan head. 4+ Aroma is sweetly malty and fairly alcoholic. Dark malt with sort of syrupy sweetness. Flavour is rich, sweet syrupy dark malt, moderate bourbony vanilla touches. Surprisingly subtle for such a big beer. Lingering lightly bitter tangy malt, sweet dark malt coats the tongue. Smooth medium to full bodied palate, soft carbonation. Not super complex but rich. Bottle at Proletariat, NYC.

12oz bottle split between 3 people. - Pours black. Bourbon, vanilla, and cocoa aroma. The taste is huge with a lot of oak barrel and bourbon notes. High alcohol presence with a thick sticky palate. This was a great stout to share and end our night with because it is huge and intense.

Bottle. Dark cola with almost no head. Aroma is barrel, soy sauce and strong fusel burn. Taste follows suit but really focuses on the barrel. Extreme alcohol burn. Extremely sticky palate. Very huge and tasty.

From the 2013 release. Pours a solid black color. Bourbon, cocoa, and roasty notes on the nose. Most follow onto the palate. Finishes with a little bite.

Bottle (2014) served in snifter at near room temps: Pours a very deep brown, nearly opaque with a fading tan head and not much lace, some oily tears. The aroma is heavy on the bourbon vapours of vanilla, oak, char and alcohol. Some of the robust stout does come through like chocolate, coffee, tobacco, and a hint of resiny esters. The taste has sharp whiskey and charred oak notes of layers of sweet malt, black strap molasses and vanilla beans. A fleeting touch of espresso, leather, tobacco and pepper attempt to round out the palate but for now the beast is just too young and unruly. Interestingly there is already a developing sherry like oxidization so I do not think that this will age gracefully beyond a year or two max. Sticky and lush mouth feel with that aggressive booze and warming sensation. I like this but alas it has the common hot boozy characteristic of many of Avery big brews when they are young.

Pours a solid black with a brown head and lacing. It has lots of rich bourbon in the aroma, along with some chocolate and alcohol. The flavor is strong bourbon and alcohol up front with. A sweet malt and coffee background leading to a great coffee and cocoa finish over a smooth, heavy body. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle pour. Jet black with minimumal tan head. Boozy aroma. This beer is very smooth with caramel, vanilla bean, and a little mocha. Definitely tasting the bourbon as well. Rich, chocolate bourbon finish. For a beer this high in abv its extremely drinkable and smooth. A must try beer.
