4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Served from a 12 oz bottle from OTM. The appearance is a rich glossy black with some ruby edges. A nice mahogany head. Rich roasty malts, sweet brown sugar, bourbon, and barrel fill the nose, with a heavy booziness but not a pure alcohol. The flavors follow with a rich full roast malt, sweet oaky bourbon, peanut butter blossom cookies, brown sugar, molasses, very nutty, some buttery-ness. Very full mouth with a good drying oak on the tongue and a alcohol burn on the roof and cheeks. The booziness is there but itís not raw alcohol heat. It is full of flavor and intensity. I can see why there is a lot of love for this brew and I can see why some people would give it a lower rating. I really enjoyed it and itís worth seeking out.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Review is of bottle dated 2/4/14
Pours a pitch black body with a 1/5th of an inch chocolate head. Head retention and lacing were average for a 15 percent beer.
Smell is big on alcohol, not so much bourbon, but slightly like rubbing alcohol. Chocolate covered brownie, charred oak, and port wine are also present. No hops, tons of sweetness dominate.
Taste is a mix of port wine, imperial stout, chocolate syrup and straight whisky. Sweet oak counteracts the maltiness of beer, alcohol is definitely there but not too bad for 15 percent.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, slightly chewy. Highly carbonated for such a high gravity beer. Wish head stayed around but its not uncommon in this type of beer.
Overall this was a good dessert/sipping drink. Similar to dark lord in terms of sweetness, but with some whisky flavor. Aging helped mellow it some, 12oz was definitely enough, borderline too sweet.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
2016/08/24 - Pours pitch black with a foamy, tan head that quickly dissipates and leaves ample lacing. Aroma is barrel, heavy cocoa and espresso, vanilla, leather, sweet roasted malt, licorice and hints of dark fruits and alcohol. Taste follows nose; lots of roasted espresso and cocoa, bourbon-vanilla notes, barrel, licorice, raisin and heavy booze. Mouthfeel is full and sticky with smooth carbonation and a long, warming, boozy finish. Sweet without being cloying and complex without being convoluted. Alcohol begins hidden, but quickly becomes more evident (and slightly harsh) as the beer warms. All things considered, this beer does a pretty good job masking the 17.1% ABV. A great sipper.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 19/20
Shared a vertical of the 2013, 2014, 2015. This beer is ultra black and viscous. A brown head forms then quickly disappears. The aroma is boozy in character but without much burn. Notes of cacao, espresso, molasses, rum, bourbon, vanilla, and more are all over the place. The body is massive and creamy. A single drop of this beer is rich and full. Sweet notes of spirits make up the flavor. More bourbon, chocolate, espresso and dark fruits are everywhere. For as crazy big of a beer this is, itís not offensive or hot. It was remarkable how similar the vintages were. Even the 2013 had plenty of sharpness and roast to it, but the finish was slightly more well rounded.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: JUL 31, 2016 355 ml, bottled Feb 13 2015.
Black body, with a small, creamy, coffee-colored head.
Aroma of bourbon, coffee, cocoa, liquorice, dark chocolate, caramel, subtle dark fruits, alcohol.
Taste follows this, except that it is much more alcoholic.
Medium, quite creamy mouthfeel, with an average carbonation.
Finishes boozy, roasty-bitter, a bit dry, with coffee, liquorice, cocoa.
Very nice, although not outstanding in my opinion. Tastes too boozy for my liking, but still really nice, complex stuff. Overall an enjoyable sipper, but not among my favourite Imperial Stouts.
