3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 3fourths (6386) - Boulder, USA - FEB 28, 2009
dark murky purple colored body, tan speckled head. Pungent nose of
tannic, musty grape skins, sweet plum tobacco and resinous dry
chocolate, all infused with a bugginess that contains a slight must of
brett and a more pronounced prickliness/horseblanket note of
pedicoccus. It’s a five-beer blend but we’re not told what exactly
the blend is, and it actually takes a little too messy, which makes me
think that this was simply a blend for the sake of making a blend, and
that there was no real goal in mind... if you’ve ever started blending
lambic at the end of the night, maybe with a little Rochefort, that’s
what this tastes like. Where it scores points is the red grape
character, both with a tart, dry, tannic skin note, and a sort of
funky and fruity champagne-like prickliness. Good overall but not
very refined.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Maltzilla (34) - Florida, USA - OCT 4, 2011
Probably one of the best beers I had on an evening of stellar brews. Very interesting layers both in aromas and in flavors. The dark fruit and horse blanket were some of the 1st things that hit your nose, and as those recede you definitely get some vinous qualities . . . barrel, tannins, vanillin, the whole enchilada. The palate followed pretty much along the same lines, though with less of the vanilla notes, a bit more oak and leather but definitely dominated by the massive cab wine barrels, and sour fruit deliciousness. Awesome beer!

Taste is acetic, vinaigrette dressing, pipe tobacco, sweet cherry, and citrus flavors. Fine carbonation, sweet cherry linger and some white grapes as well. Smells great, but a bit sweet overall.
4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 18/20 alagnak (467) - Littleton, Colorado, USA - SEP 16, 2010
Draft @ Avery. I think this is the last keg. Pours a velvety brown with a wispy head. Nose is just out of this world good. Tart cherries, a little smoke, backed up with a really nice barnyard from the variouswild yeasts. Flavor is different, yet great, every sip. FIrst, the malty sour shines, then dark forest fruits, then there;s some raspberry, then a little peppery sour strawberry, then just a hint of the avery signature bitterness. This is a gem.

Maltzilla just kills it with another rare gem. Thanks for letting me pull this out of your cellar and into the cooler! Pours a brown color. Aroma hits with funky red wine notes, grapes, black cherries, earthy malts, light tartness. Flavor is just a wonderful mix of grapes, red wine, dark tart cherries, earth, wood, light vinegar...tons of flavors that actually come together and make this a true drinking experience.

Draught at Sour Fest. Clear dark brown with small white head. Aroma of woodiness, sweet malts, funky brett and light alcohol. Taste is malty for a sour. Big malt backbone supports funky brett taste; sweetness from malts is balanced by sourness from brett. Medium carbonation, medium bodied.
