3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 12/20 rcubed (35) - Vista, California, USA - JUN 19, 2010
Pours a hazy yellow color with an eggshell white head. Lots of carbonation. Leaves a nice lacing as the head fades.
Brewed with orange peel and coriander, you get slight spice notes in the nose that is dominated by the Belgium yeast breadiness with a slight funk.
Taking a drink, this beer has a very smooth mouth feel. The spice notes are rather subdued, letting the wheat to shine through. It’s an easy drinking beer, especially on a summer day.

Surprisingly light and refreshing for an Avery brew. citrus, clove, amber, pale, hazy, white foam, light sweetness, light body, average carbonation.

Surprisingly lite/white in color, I guess the name fits. Nice spicy nose, with complex flavor and a crisp palate.

Aroma: Funk is the very first this I get on the nose with this ale. Funky, yeasty, barnyard almost with the very slightest suggestion of coriander or fruit trying push through. A welcome change from the big candied fruit nose of so many American Wits.
Appearance: Hazy, pale yellow with a quickly fading head that returns with a slight swirl of the glass. I left the yeast in the bottom. A sturdy lacing does remain on the beer though; I bet this ale would benefit greatly from bottle conditioning.
Taste: Nailed it! The wit can be a tricky maiden to tame due to the ease with which you can make the beer sweet and over the top fruity. This ale is neither. It starts with a rich yet drying yeasty flavor that is immediately surpassed by the sweet fruit flavors of the coriander and orange peel. The orange peel feels like maybe it was bitter because it lends depth of flavor not sugar to the taste so they avoid the cloying feel and stick to refreshment and a nice slightly acidic finish that gets the juices flowing.
Palate: I like the way the beer drinks: rich yet session-ably light. The carbonation shines in the mouth and really releases the complexity of flavor the funk hides on the nose. Whatever yeast these guys are using really does a great job of making this beer feel authentically Belgian.
Overall: Although I do not seek out the Belgian Wit as an everyday drinker, I think this one has the depth of flavor and avoidance of candy sweetness that would make it worthy of being stocked in my beer fridge. Plus it’s my wife’s favorite beer!

First thing I noticed was a surprisingly strong aroma of spicy citrus. Pours to a golden orange look with a small head and a bit of lacing. Lacks in overall flavor to me but possesses an aroma with yeast, orange, and a medicine flavor. Not horrible for a witbier but Avery has done better.

I love Witbeirs. While this is not a true Witbeir its darn close. This is a good Belgian White that you could drink a lot of on a warm sunny day out on the deck. The aroma is very suttle with slight hints of orange. The appearance is thirst quenching with its golden light color. The palate is nice and smooth. The taste is hard to put your finger on, has very light hints of orange and citrus, but also gives off a floral after taste.

UPDATED: NOV 21, 2009 Almost looks like Victory’s Whirlwind under glass though the head settles quite quickly. It’s alright; spicy, citrus nose. Flavor backs that up; tart, lemony. Very lively carbonation, texture is lacking. Not my favorite style but a good representation.
