A truly authentic Belgian style wheat or "white" ale, this Rascal is unfiltered (yup, thatís yeast on the bottom) and cleverly spiced with coriander and Curacao orange peel producing a refreshingly fruity thirst quencher.

Full review with photos and links to other related blog reviews and articles: http://beer47.com/2009/04/avery-white-r review:----- Appearance. White Rascal has a nice white frothy head that lingers in the form of a thin layer of foam on the top of your beer until the last drop. It is pale yellow-white in color and cloudy in appearance. ----- Smell. The aroma of this beer has the expected Belgian yeast smell but it is slightly subdued. The aroma has a smooth ripe banana smell. It has a hint of citrus and and sweet grains. ----- Taste. White Rascal has a light grain-like sweetness that can be described as refreshing. There is just the lightest hint of bitterness and it is enough to balance the light maltiness in the beer. The orange peels come through with a some citrus flavor in the finish. ----- Mouthfeel. The mouthfeel is that of a light-bodied beer with just the right amount of carbonation. ----- Drinkability. Just like many beers of this style, White Rascal is a very drinkable beer appropriate not only for warm weather but also for a slightly chilly evening.

Cloudy and opaque yellow body with a white head that laces the glass well. Strong aroma of wheat, a confusing yeasty element that is as wit-ish as it is hefe-ish, citrus, banana and spices, and in the back I get honey and sweet corn flakes. The strong flavour gives the same wit/hefe confusion, I get lots of spices, especially coriander, but at the same time lots of banana in a hefeweizen way. Also pretty citric. The taste is sweeter than most witbiers, the finish is light bitter. Dry and light on the palate, rather lively carbonation. A nice one!

355ml can from Systembolaget. Hazy pale yellow, fluffy white head and little lacing. The aroma of spices, lemon, green apple, bread dough. Medium body and a fizzy mouthfeel, it is quite high carbonated. Taste got citrus peel, banana, pepper, coriander, yeast. Finish is a bit spicy.

Witbier is one of my favorite summer styles (and one of my favorite style, period for that matter). When done right it can be amazingly delicious. When done well itís still pretty good. Avery White Rascal falls into the latter category. A solid, to-spec Belgian White for sure, but not an amazing one.

I poured a 12oz can into a goblet. It was canned on 6/22/15 and cost $2.95 ($0.25 per ounce).

Appearance: Classic pale yellow hue with translucent body. Not carbonation is visible, nor is sediment. Pours to a large, white, pillowy head which laces and retains beautifully.

Smell: A light fruity aroma of bananas and orangepeel with some floral notes. Not quite as pungent as Iíd prefer, though.

Taste: There are certain flavor components I expect and want in a witbier and this has them all. A light wheaty body up front, but with not especially sweet (nor tart). The second half contains most of the flavor in the form of citrusy orangepeel and a light coriander spice. Not much in the way of hop flavor or bitterness. Itís a simple, repetitive palette and the taste never grows old; my only complaint is that itís a little too mild. Iíd think a fresh can like this would be bold and peppery, but itís surprisingly tame. This would make a great starter witbier, though.

Drinkability: A beer like Avery White Rascal is exactly what I want in the warmer months. Itís refreshing after every swig and leaves a clean aftertaste. The mouthfeel is quite soft and smooth Ė almost creamy, though it also feels a bit watery and under-carbonated. Iíd prefer more zesty Belgian effervescence (which is more common in bottle-conditioned brews). It doesnít seem to quite take full advantage of its 5.6% ABV, as this feels like something in the sub-5% range. Iím sure no one will have a problem putting back a couple of these.

Score: 7/10

12oz can. Pours a cloudy deep straw with a white head. Spicy, citrusy aroma, cloves, phenols, yeast, wheat. Off-dry, medium bodied, low bitterness, creamy CO2. Spicy, citrusy taste, cloves, lightly hoppy, wheat, phenols, yeast. Easy drinking, nothing special, but very well made. (2015-07-17) ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz can. Canned 11/25/14. Courtesy of olio. Cheers! Hazy yellow color with a small white head. Sweetness, yeast, mild wheat, spices and some fruitiness in the aroma. The flavor is dry malty wheat, sweetness, mild fruits and some yeast. A bit unbalanced. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
