This oatmeal stout has an explosion of flavor created by dark roasted grains, and a 2 row barley. A full bodied oatmeal stout that has tastes of chocolate and a smoothness from the oatmeal.

Pours a rich sable with a very thick tan head. Strong aroma has definite notes of roast malt, coffee and chocolate with a hint of toffee. Flavor echoes the mocha and smoky malt of the aroma, with a little toffee and caramel and even a hint of woody hops. Texture is firm and smooth, though a bit lacking in fizz. Let this snake bite you.

Draft at the restaurant. Pours a clear very dark brown color with a medium sized frothy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of roasted malts, nuts, bitter hops. The taste is rich chocolate and cocoa, bitter hops, oats, nuts, faint honey notes. Lingering bitterness, well balanced, average carbonation. Very nice beer.

Draft at Pizza Paradiso, Dupont Circle. I was really taken with this beer, even if a lot of my fellow raters haven’t been. Pours very dark, with a slight tan head. Aroma is rich, roasty and with notes of milk chocolate. Body lively, roasty, oaty, Finish is huge, with a coffee-like bitterness, roasty elements and a big, strong finish. Call me a sucker for the style, but this was really well-done.

Bottle @ home from Golositalia 2014. Retrolfattivo questi piccante. Equilibrata, intensa, complessa. Molto buona.

On tap 4 oz. sampler at Pizza Paradiso in the DuPont Circle neighborhood, Washington, DC. Opaque, brown-black with a creamy yellow-khaki head and good lacing. Aroma of orange, tropical fruit, guava, pineapple and caramel. Taste of tropical fruit, pine, orange, guava, caramel and pepper. Medium/full body and low/medium carbonization. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from JCB. This pours black with a thick, fluffy tan head that laces very well. The first thing I noticed in the aroma is a bourbon soaked raisin and date scent. Light chocolate mixes in, with molasses, and some vanilla character. Smooth going down and more substantial and fuller in the body than expected. The carbonation is a touch high but nothing distracting. Allowing it to warm closer to room temp takes care of most of that. The flavors center around wood, bourbon, charred malt, and dark chocolate. A touch of sweet molasses noted in the background with some toasted coconut integrating nicely. Initial sweetness is backed up by a firm roasty bitterness in the finish. Enjoyed this one.

On tap at the brewery. Pitch black with a smallish white head. Strong hints of chocolate and coffee, with alcohol definitely coming through in the finish. I’d definitely drink it again.

22oz bottle. Poured a dark brown color with an averaged sized tan head. Aromas of roasted grains, dark chocolate, vanilla, wood, some bourbon, and some earthiness. Tastes of wood, vanilla, oats, chocolate, lighter bourbon, and lighter molasses.
