From the Jug at the GABF, Colorado Convention Center Denver 16/09/2010 As King Rat Imperial Oatmeal Stout Roast aroma. Black a little rich on the palate and hoppy with a hint of dryness in a crisp and bitter burnt roast finish.

750mL bottle. Poured very deep brown with a tall, fluffy cap of rich brown head.. looked very good in the glass. The aroma picked up brighter cherry and vinegary notes that indicated a potential infection.. toasted oats, vanilla bean, and semi-sweet chocolates supported.. quite intriguing, despite the potential bugs. The flavor was fairly well in line with the nose.. sweeter black patent malts, chocolate, and some coffee at the core, with cherry vinegar character emanating outward.. tangy, especially on the back-end.. essence of toasted pecans if you dig really deep.. still, the infection hurt this a whole lot. Medium-bodied and way too carbonated on the palate.. if this was supposed to be a sour stout, I probably would’ve given it a slightly better score, but it wasn’t a very enjoyable drink.

Bottle. Pours a black deep bruin body with a tan head, and thick lacing. Dark coffee notes, licorice, and caramel. Burnt malt tones, with a roast y bitterness and oatmeal body. Solid offering.

Dark brown in color with a tall khaki head. The nose is way off for a beer like this. Lemon and intense lactic acidity up front. Lots of raisins, too. Acidic and acrid roast with a char character, too. The flavor is just as bad. Sour and lemony with intense char/roast/burnt flavors, too. Obviously not what was intended, but that’s what it is.

Bottle at tasting. Deep brown pour, almost black, with bubbly light tan head. Flavor dominated be roasted malt, with some cocoa, and burnt coffee. Fairly dry and light for an imperial stout.

750 cork and caged. Pours black with large lasting dark brown head. Aroma is kinda weak, reminscent of a milk stout. But the flavor is heavily roasted, with lots of milk chocolate and a bit of acidity. Very mild and silky and hides the abv very well. Nicely done, though more like a good stout than an imperial one.

Growler. Pretty nice pour, dark black with two fingers of chestnut brown head. Nose shows some muted chocolate and coffee and mild roasty notes over a light sweetness. Flavor is pretty similar, not too terribly impressive but unoffensive. I think of this more as a strong stout than an imperial one.
