COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Battlefield is a special India Pale Ale that is as aggressive as it’s name: well-hopped and packed with rich maltiness. A stellar balance of crisp bitterness and floral aromas, achieved by a god-like blend of English and American hops. We like to think it puts a spin on what you know about IPAs. Try it with beef dishes or any grilled/blackened meats, shrimp or light fish, and for a snack pair with strong cheeses.

Draft. Hazy gold with a small head. Nose is a bit soapy with a mild citrus hop profile. Grainy. A bit thin on the body. Bitter and a bit astringent. Ok but needs work.

Draft at the brewery. Orange pour with a thin off white top. Scent is citrus and caramel. Taste is caramel, citrus and a bit earthy.

Growler. Poured orange with a creamy off-white head that settled to a ring and left light lace. Aroma of fresh grapefruit. The flavor found orange, floral, and a hint of malt backing. Medium body and light bitterness.

UPDATED: FEB 21, 2012 Draft sampled at Magic City Brewfest. Pours a golden amber with a medium-sized off white head. Aroma is very hoppy -- quite earthy and floral, with a decent hit of pine and citrus -- and quite malty. Good balance follows through in the flavor. There’s a bit of a buttery, creamy diacetyl note. I know that’s supposed to be bad, but I thought it worked well in this one. Earthy, rich, round flavor and mouthfeel. Liked it a whole lot. Looking forward to having it on tap around Birmingham. --------- Had it again on tap this evening at the brewery. Can’t think of another brew I’ve ever sampled that was so flowery on the nose. Not sure if this makes sense, but it smells, tastes, and feels like a 6%ABV DIPA. Has the interesting hop profile, maltiness, and mouthfeel of a DIPA -- but not the alcohol level. ------- Just had it again. Very soapy and overly citrusy. Tasted sort of like dish detergent and had an unpleasant, slick mouthfeel. I’d say that this beer is very inconsistent, but this has been it’s profile for a few months. Avondale makes some good beers, but this ain’t one of them.
