We collaborated with Woody from Finer Grind to brew a small batch of Coffee Oatmeal Stout. Brewed with Coco Nips, Oats and the Sumatra Blue Batak beans from the Batak Peoples of Sumatra. It is roasted medium-dark, and has sweet scotch aroma with flavor notes of cinnamon and stone fruit, a hint of citrus with a buttery mouthfeel. Locally roasted coffee beans and locally brewed beer! Draft. Pours very dark with a medium-sized tan head that leaves behind some good lacing. Aroma is -- good God almighty! -- lots of coffee. Blots out just about everything else. Flavor is fuller and more complex. Lots of coffee, yes, but there are hints of chocolate, roasted malt, a touch of fruity esters. Coffee is strong but not overly bitter. The tasting notes are right on this one -- I’m picking up some really interesting scotch notes: slightly smoky, peaty. Tasty.
