COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Available year-round.

Avondaleís beloved Miss Fancy the Elephantís favorite pastime was to guzzle bootleg beer and whiskey. We share Miss Fancyís affinity for tasty brews, which is why we were inspired to add a twist to one of our favorites: with hints of exotic vanilla extract, we think the Vanillaphant Porter would have been one of Miss Fancyís favorites too!

The Vanillaphant is a superb vanilla porter, an ale which is surprisingly light bodied for its robust flavor and has all the chocolate and roasted nut flavors you would expect in a porter but with a special vanilla twist at the end. We use the worlds finest hand selected vanilla beans from the bourbon islands of Madagascar in our recipe. The malty and vanilla sweetness are perfectly balanced with hoppy bitterness.

Appearance: Very dark brown body with glimmers of garnet, clearish, with a head thatís just shy of being white in color.

Smell: While there is a bit of roast and dark fruitiness contained with the nose, itís like sniffing a standard edition Tootsie Roll and a Vanilla Tootsie Roll at the same time.

Taste: Dark maltiness with a chocolate, coffee (light) vibe to it with a fast hit of vanilla. Lesser malty accent of toast and caramel. Medium-plus sweetness. Faint dark fruit. Nil hop character, bitterness. Sweetish finish with the chief flavor, vanilla.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Thereís an incredibly minor stickiness to the mouthfeel.

Overall: Itís good, but, itís just a hair too sweet and strong on the vanilla. Still, I suppose itís better to err on the side of a bit too much vanilla as to failing to deliver any appreciable (and appreciated) vanilla flavor, like the Breckenridge iteration.

Nice dark porter. Has a short tan head leaving a bit of lacing. Taste is obviously vanilla with malt and a hoops finish. Vanilla was not as overpowering to me as it was to many reviewers.

A downright impressive porter! Iím always skeptical of porters that have flavorings in the description, but this one nails it. The "Vanillaphant" as it has been termed, is always my go-to beer when I stop in the tap room. Additionally, it is one of the best dark beers that J Clyde offers.
