| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 3, 2008 Updated: May 21, 2009From bottle. Pours the color of dark wood with a smallish head. Aroma of malt, wheat and caramel. Flavor is fairly mild and caramel sweet, finishing with some chocolate and a surprisingly refreshing hop finish. I enjoyed this, but found the flavors a bit thin and subdued.
retried 5/19/09: Ayinger Altbeirisch Dunkel 5/18/09 (bomber poured into an English pint glass. Color is ruby-brown, clear, with a creamy head. Aroma of dried fruit, chocolate, and earthiness. Flavor is a continuation of the aroma: smoky, peaty initial note, “old,” with toasted nuts and dried fruits. Flavors linger with nuttiness. Palate has a medium mouthfeel, not particularly dry or otherwise. Leaves mouth a bit clammy though. Interesting take on a dunkel.) 3.4. jrob21 (1285), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 29, 2008 On tap at the corner tavern on Edgewood. Poured a deep brown color with a bid of an auburn tint. Flavor was big wheat and bread. Chewy malt profile was followed nicely by a faint hop bitter finish. Typical and expected yeast aromas as per the style. Very drinkable. coldbrewky (742), Saugerties, New York, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 29, 2008 Dont serve this puppy too cold as it is quite sensitive to cold temps. Full pour yields a medium brown /amberish body with a nice thick tan head that never comes back after the first mouthing. Lots of caramel promises in the nose that will reward the tounge if served at the proper temperature. Otherwise you will end up with a tinny watery body. When served properly a slick sweet body will slide about your mouth an linger. bp (487), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 23, 2008 Bottle: pours a dark reddish brown with a thin white head, aroma of malt and roasted barley, taste is toasted malts, just a little sweet, with a smooth finish. Not bad. AgentSteve (1379), SF Bay Area, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 19, 2008 Pours an attractive deep ruddy brown with a decent cream colored head. The nose is roasted malt and caramel. The flavor is more of that, with the toasted malt standing out in a smokey, smooth way. Quite smooth on the palate as well. mgermani (871), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jun 14, 2008 Pours a medium brown with a nice off-white head which dissolves quickly into a small but lasting layer of foam with some lacing. Aroma is very bready, reminds me of a good Maibock. Tastes lightly smoky, very bready, lightly toasted with some diacetyl, light nuttiness. Body is creamy but thin, carbonation average. Can’t say I really care for this one, but then I’ve always had issues with Dunkels. Willing to give anything a try, especially given that I’ve enjoyed Ayinger so far, but this one falls flat for me. boFNjackson (1329), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 13, 2008 Bottle... Poured deep burgandy with a huge frothy head. Aroma is great, roasted nuts, tea and plums. Palate is smooth, with flavors of roasted malt, caramel and a touch of hops for a mild, refreshing bitterness. Some other chocolate, mild coffee flavors too. Very hearty.
