Pour is mostly clear caramel brown, cola, with a two inch tan head that falls fairly quick. Aroma of sweet caramel toffee malt, toasty bread grain, and some apple fruit sweetness. There is also a faint roasted background, just a whisper. Taste is the toasted grain and sweet malt initially, with the apple fruit elements trailing in the finish. The roast is not present until the longish finish. Palate is medium to thin, highly carbonated. This is a smooth, drinkable beer, but just a bit too sweet for my liking. | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jul 10, 2009 Bottle. Pours a very nice dark amber with a tan head. Smells roasty and a bit fruity. Tastes like it smells and looks. Nice robust chocolate/black coffee flavor with a nice malt hop balance. Very complex for a lager. Not a big fan of lagers, but this one might change my mind completely. Doesn’t finish clean like a lot of lagers. The coffee lingers on, which is nice. Thus is just a great beer. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 31, 2009 Pours a clear brown with a slight reddish tint and small white head that dissipates rather quickly. Aroma is plum, raisin, peace, fig, and a candy like malt. Sweet dark fruit notes are accentuated in the malt character, subsiding into cherry and cranberry. Flavor starts with a mild resinous hop presence and flows into a somewhat sweeter, overripe fruit nature. Palate is lightly prickling, and silky, but not syrupy. Leaves a sugary coating with mild dryness. Very nice. Vertical Bacon Strips (924), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 29, 2009 First thing: Took off the cap - smelt exactly like dry cat food - exactly - that is a dead-on smell as I’ve ever had. I don’t care what anyone else has said in their reviews, if you have a bottle of this, get some dry cat food and compare when you open - it’s dead on - every other review is sub-par on aroma. Still does in the glass - that sweet, dry cerealish....can’t get around that. Guess I like cat food cause this beer is awsome! A modest head arose then disapeared leaving a closer to tan than white coating. The taste is what makes this beer. Still some dry cat food hanging around (I’ve tried all my cats food before, so I guess I’m an expert) but it’s better than average dry hoppy finish, mild malts and slight sourness is what really impresses me. Beautiful reddish brown looks killer in my glass which is quickly getting more and more empty due to endless sips. Creamy dry bitter malty finish. Excellent. Remember - Dry cat food in liquid form. Don’t think about that too much or you’ll start to feel sick.
