COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dark chocolate in color, you can see a wonderful reflection if you hold it up to the light. It is round and soft with the warm, sweet aroma of freshly roasted malted barley. A satisfying, malty taste, with coffee-ish tones and a hint of plummy fruitiness in the finish. Complex and beautifully balanced.

Bottle from BevMo in Fairfield, CA. Pours a brown color and smelled of roasted malt. I’ve usually a fan of roasty malt flavor, but I felt it was a bit unbalanced. I was expecting a little more sweet, but all I got was roasted nut flavor. Not great, but still pretty good.

Rich malt aroma. Clear mahogany with a very light tan head that lingers. Taste is rich with malt and chocolate. Some slight dark fruit is a nice addition.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours a clear mahogany color with a one finger head just off white foam. The head has a great level of retention, slowly fading to leave a tons of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the beer is quite heavy of caramel and brown sugar with a bit of a roasted malt aroma. Some light chocolate smells as well as some molasses and plum are there as well. Overall the aroma is rather sweet. Taste – The taste begins with a lightly roasted and toasted bready flavor with some sweeter notes of a fruity nature with some plum and cherry. As the taste advances, a caramel and molasses sweetness joins the flavor all while some flavors of a light coffee and chocolate come to the tongue. Some more grainy flavors as well as some more roasted flavors come to the tongue after the cocoa and coffee. At the same time, a bit of an earthy and herbal hop come to the tongue, and in the end, mix with the sweeter and roasted flavors nicely to leave a smooth, lightly toasted, and sweeter flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is average in terms of thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is on the average side. The average carbonation and body are rather a nice bled for the darker but yet very drinkable nature of the brew. Overall – For a dunkel lager this is on the slightly sweeter side, but very drinkable and quite enjoyable. A rather good easy drinking darker lager.

On tap at McNellie’s OKC. Pours a deep reddish brown with a creamy off-white head. Good lacing that cascades down the glass. Smells of malt, caramel and toffee. Taste follows the nose, along with a bit of toasted grain. Medium mouth that’s very smooth. Quite a drinkable dunkel.

16.9 oz. bottle poured into tulip glass. Pours a clear, dark brown with ruby undertones. A medium sized tan head settles into a quarter inch thick with faint lacing. Smell is of dark roasted malt, mocha, caramel, toffee. Taste is heavy on roasted malt up front with notes of toffee and chocolate in the middle and then finishing with mocha and a faint amount of hops. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, smooth, and creamy. Overall, a great dunkel, Ayinger never disappoints.

500 ml bottle bought at Gorgeous Wine & Cigar in Yuen Long.

Looks: Clear deep amber brown colour; One finger head and light-beige foam which lasts for 1 minute; Very good sticky lacing and fizzy carbonation.

Aroma: Sweet roasted dark malt, with very fragrant strong caramel, light sticky toffee, sugar, light cream, light coffee, and faint lemony grass hops.

Taste: Close to light sweet dark malt, with pretty strong roastyness, light nuts, strong caramel, shades of toffee, very light black coffee, light dark chocolate, molasses notes, Cola, light lemon, bitter hops and very sharp grass.

Body: Light. Thin and slightly slick palate.

Mouth Feel: Dark malt in light body with strong roastyness, but nuttiness is light. Fairly low sweetness, molasses is only notes. Light touch but notable toffee, black coffee and chocolate. Pretty reserved in the malt but hoppy and confident. Yes!

Hoppiness: Faint lemon and grass nose. Expressive lemon and sharp grass in taste. Moderate bitterness to macth the dark roastyness for a quite astringent and malty finish.

After Taste: Quite dry; Roasty and light bitter to mouth.

Comments: This is pretty much my ideal Dunkel should taste like - potent roasty dark malt, nice caramel nose, very low sweetness, driven by good bitter hoppiness and good light touch of coffee, caramel and toffee palate. As a Dunkel, this seems reserved but in a nice way. Smart and very relaxing, I’m glad I picked this for the evening. : )

Pours a nice dark reddish brown with a thick head that hangs around. Aroma is huge malt, almost molasses, some caramel, very roasty, and a sweet plum finish. Taste is rich roasty malt, thick molasses, caramel, almost a coffee roast note that is slightly bitter, and a much weaker plum finish than the aroma. Texture is smooth and creamy yet light and drinkable. Fantastic beer, should have grabbed more than one.

Dark caramel brown color. Aroma is roasted grain. Taste is sweet, dark roasted malt, a tiny bit of bitterness and a tiny bit of sourness. I’m not a fan of the style, but it’s drinkable and good.

Really interesting style for a dunkel, never had one so refreshing before. It’s not as bittery you would expect, has good carbonation and a very smooth finish. Poured a dark clear redish-brown with surprisingly small head. Would definitely recommend!

Well this is one hell of a beer! Of course everything I’ve had from this brewery is top-notch so I’m not surprised. This one has a very long-lasting creamy, almost tan head that forms lacing on the glass. The color is a slightly light chocolate brown and the aroma reminds me of caramel and a little bit of pumpernickel bagels. At taste, not very bitter at all, goes down sublimely smooth with an average finish that doesn’t stay with you for long, which makes you take another sip rather quickly. What I do notice is the exquisitely perfect amount of carbonation. An absolutely beautiful beer!
