Dark chocolate in color, you can see a wonderful reflection if you hold it up to the light. It is round and soft with the warm, sweet aroma of freshly roasted malted barley. A satisfying, malty taste, with coffee-ish tones and a hint of plummy fruitiness in the finish. Complex and beautifully balanced.

Bottle from Kenny Road Market, poured into mug. Pours a clear brown color with an appealing beige head. Ayinger certainly knows how to make a good looking beer. Aroma is sweet, full of toffee, nuts, and malt. Flavor contains notes of dark fruit along with the elements carried over from the aroma. Good stuff.

Brown color with a ight beige head, good retention. Aroma is light nutty with toasted malts. Flavor is slightly sweet and caramelish. Weak beer, I expected more about it...

Dark red brown with medium long lasting beige head. Aroma is dried figs, maybe dates, caramel and syrup. Taste is sweet (but not too sweet) with a little bitterness and very natural carbonation induced sourness. Velvety smooth mouthfeel with dates finish. Overall very nice. Comparable with the doppelbock but less intense, less strong.

Pours dark ruby brown from the bottle. Clear, with a frothy tan head that quickly subsides. Aroma has strong caramel and roasted notes with evident toffee. Taste is bittersweet with rich roasted malt flavors. Lots of toffee. Could be a bit more robust, and no exotic notes here, but is still a pleasant sipping companion and quite good for the style. Good stuff.

I do not wax on poetically about beer but I do know the quality of a beer once tasted. This review is not about my tastes but reinforces the numbers, which are arbitrary.

Pours a sparkling reddish brown body with a tan disappearing head. Rich aroma of bread, wine, dried plumms, malt, with notes of caramel. Taste starts with plumms, later joined by dark bread, chocolate and caramel. A bit metallic. Finish bittersweet of dark bread. Medium body with a thin (a bit sticky) texture and lively carbonation. Pleasant to drink.

From a half-litre bottle. Pours a medium brown. Light-medium carbonation with minimal head. Toffee biscuit nose. Wet mouth feel, a tad of more toffee, but mild. We Americans try to rip this off with our ambers. (my first true dunkel). Pleasant for lack of better word. a drinkin’ all day beer if I didn’t have to work tomorrow.

Ar- light toast, some caramel, toffee, no hop aroma Ap- dark reddish brown with a weak off white head Fl- more complex than the hofbrau, subtle malt sweetness up front, hint of caramel, dark fruits, toast Mouthfeel, med-light bodied, well carbonated, a touch viscous, nice finish Ov- while more nuanced than the hofbrau I like it slightly less. It good just doesn't really stand for anything. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
