4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Rated Boulder Colorado July 31, 2003. Glorious dense ruby brown clear under a large beige tan medium lasting head. One of the best beer aromas around with BIG fruity (Raisins dates and figs), malty treacle and plum pudding aromas. Medium to chewy but very low carb body. Aroma hints at high sweetness but only minimal sweetness exists in the flavour which starts and lingers big and malty. Finish is slightly sweeter before moving to more bitter in the aftertaste. 90oF is not exactly the type of weather to be drinking this beer nevertheless a blessed brew.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Got the last bottle at the Shack, a liquor store in Superior, WI. I have had this one time previous; in 1990 at Spike's Place in Santa Barbara. One thing hasn't changed; the little white plastic goat hanging from the bottle neck. I am surprised at the huge number of ratings for this brew, and frankly, at the high rating. Rich, molasses, bread pudding aroma. Large, tan head with fine bubbles. Couldn't really gauge the body color and appearance through the plastic cup I was forced to drink this out of at the Best Western hotel. Looked dark brown, opaque. Sweet, rich flavor, yet smooth. Like a dessert. Good, yet a little off.

deep red-brown body (almost burgundy in colour). sour malt nose. tastes dirty and sour with a bitter finish. iím very surprised, iíve had celebrator a few years back and for some reason this simply does not taste like the same beer (itís not as good). i do like the little ram though! (maybe i got a baaaad bottle).

2.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JUL 27, 2003 Dark, dark brown to black body. A quickly dissipating head. No lacing.
A medicine like smell. Licorice, alcohol and anise maybe. Something doesn't seem right.
Big, thick near overwhelming flavors. Lots of smokey malts. Layers of malt. Alcohol of course. I swear I almost smell and taste bacon!
Very rich on the tongue. Almost like high quality chocolate on the tongue. Think this bottle may be pushing it age limits but still interesting.

Another great beer that i've had by Ayinger. I recently tried this at a pub in Munich while visting some friends in Bavaria. It has a somewhat licorice taste to it with good head.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Medium body, dark dark amber pour with just a tiny little head. Smells malty, fruity. Medium bodied. At first taste I picked out figs, then onto licorice and raisin, and it's roasty the whole time. It's really all a bit odd to me but wonderfully complex. Thumbs up.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Full, light brown head. Dark brown chestnut color, some light gets through showing dark red highlights. Massive nose of malt, fresh baked bread, grain and some fruitiness. Med/full body, DUH! Medium sweet, not like alot of sickningly sweet bocks. Malty, creamy, luxurious mouthfeel, nice. Black licorice, Slight coffee notes. Pleasent dry roasty finish. A real complex tasting brew. Wonder how it would age? Hmmmmm.

Years ago, the only good beer store around talked me into trying this. I paid like 6 bucks for one bottle. Just to try The worst, nastiest imitation Tar Ive ever put to my lips. So bad I didnt even take more then a few sips. I only took more then one sip just because I couldnt believe the crap I was tasting and the fact I paid 6 bucks for one bottle. Gave to my brother who long liked German beers. He didnt care for it....
I wouldnt let you give this to my dog....
Suitable only for resurfacing your driveway....Ill have to retry it some day to see if its bad as I remember.

Beer pours (in Chimay glass) a near solid black showing a very dark brown-red when held up to light with a small beige off-white head. Aroma is of sour apples hiding a small hint of coffee. Flavor is sour with a slight hop giving way to a clean, coffee finish. Very nice. Great beer. Smooth and easy to drink. Sampled at 72 degrees Fahrenheit.
