3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 nealblind (74) - USA - MAY 12, 2013
Dark Mahogany. Big head with good retention. Smells of raisins, walnuts and soy sauce. Tastes of sweet roasted soy sauce with some chocolate. Slight carb. Slight lactic tang. Definite smokey flavor. More watery than I expected. Malts seem to be more in the background than I’d expect for a typical doppelbock. Malt flavor gets stronger as it warms, but astringency becomes overbearing.
