DrZao (54), Houston, Texas, USA Sep 13, 2007 Updated: Nov 13, 2007 Bottle. Pours dark brown/ruby with thin tan head. Aromas of malty molasses and dark fruit. Flavor is the same, sweet molasses and raisin, but balanced by very subtle hops on the finish. The finish is just right, with only mild lingering sweetness and bitter. The palate is smooth and slightly viscous, with minimal carbonation. Nice sipping beer, but not a daily drinker for me...just a bit overwhelming on the malty sweetness.
heynik1885 (36), tonawanda, New York, USA Nov 20, 2008 Poured into stein, Dark brown color with a frothy off white head. Not much lacing on glass. Smells of chocolate, flowers, burnt fruit, malt and caramel. Taste is complex but appearent is malts, hops, chocolate, fruits, licorice and a overall roasted flavor that adds a great balance to this beer. Alcohol and bitterness is in proportion and work well with the flavors. Palate is smooth, sturdy and leaves a great aftertaste on the back of the tongue. A great doppelbock. jimmack34 (137), Ohio, USA Nov 19, 2008 Pours amber dark brown with white frothy head. Smells fruity and sweet with hints of chocolate and toffee. Tastes tart, sweet, and malty, with some roasty, chocolate, fermented fruit, and a little bitterness. Pretty good. HonkeyBra (472), Lemont, Illinois, USA Nov 2, 2008 Crushed with TheDude. He said it would change my perspective and Doppelbocks. He was right. Deep Dark brown pour. Malty, fruity aroma. Delicious, roasty, caramel, slightly bitter hops. Big thick mouthfeel. Thanks Dude, this was totally awesome. taalhiker (150), Dayton, Ohio, USA Nov 2, 2008 From bottle. Part of February Dayton Beer Tasting event. Poured gorgeous deep brown with substantial tan head.
Aromas of malt, chocolate, and candied cherries. Very complex taste centered around its malty sweetness. Gets better as it warms up a little bit. Great effort.
