MrChopin (111), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA May 4, 2008 Nose has incredible balance of bitter roasts, sweeter chocolate, fainter citrus, and subtle, plum-like dark fruits. Beer is dark red, almost black. Taste is in coffee, caramel, some grassy citrus, pretty much a reflection of the nose. Palate is fantastic. Probably a good sub for those who enjoy imperial stouts but not the meal-like weight. A great beer on its own anyway.
bermod (81), Lappeenranta, Finland Jul 16, 2008 Roasted malty aroma of dark bread, syrup and chocolate. Syrupy-sweet flavor is roasted malts, bread and chocolate. Very tasteful. wcampbell (380), Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 16, 2008 Great, especially with food. Perfect balance for a dopplebock - not too sweet. Highly drinkable. Full bodied, creamy complex malt taste. Dark fruit flavors were excellent. Nothing stands out. Not much hops of course. Lightly bitter finish. ontheroad (25), Buffalo, New York, USA Jul 15, 2008 Pours blackish-brown, with a frothy head that thins quickly. A very full-flavored brew tasting of burnt malt, almost coffeelike, with a hint of fuitiness. An enjoyable beer. cbeers21 (351), Miami, Florida, USA Jul 12, 2008 Pours an oily brown/black with thin mocha colored head. Musty fruits on the nose, plums, prunes, raisins, apricots as well as toasted chocolate and light coffee aromas which tingle the olfactory glands. A well rounded mouthfeel with diverse and contrasting flavors all over the palate, yet at the same time remaining refreshing and fairly well balanced. Mustiness of the myriad flavors provides a grandfather like association for me and leaves me with an espresso-like drying finish which leaves me to contemplate about stuff. Not overly potent, but the alcohol always seems to kick in harder on this brew. Not bad at all sir. maniac4016 (80), sky ute, Illinois, USA Jul 11, 2008 usually not a big malt fan, but give credit where it is do, this dopple will knock you on your ass if not careful, very smooth and decieving like a woman, be careful with this goat as he will ram his mighy horns up your ass if you try to abuse him.
