4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: AUG 25, 2011 Bottle. Poured a rich dark brown almost black in color it had a nice light brown frothy head that was mostly lasting with excellent lacing.
The aroma was moderate of roasted malts, a light resin hop and nice dose of doughy yeast with notes of molasses and coffee.
It tasted mildly sweet with a hint of molasses in the beginning and finished slightly bitter-sweet with a rich coffee note at the end that left the flavor lingering around for a nice long while.
Mouthfeel was surprisingly medium in body and very creamy in texture with a flat carbonation.
Overall one of the best brews I have ever tasted. I sampled this years ago and have to say it still tastes as good as I remember. Definitely in my top 10...

Aromas of dried fruits such as plums and cherries, toasted malt, caramel, with hints of chocolate, licorice, Clear dark amber to brown with beige head that lingers and laces.Flavors of caramel, toast, bread, raisin, plum, with hints of umami. Mouthfeel is medium but light for a DB making it the most drinkable DB out there.Carbonation is medium high. Balanced medium finish. Wow!!

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Brown/red with bubbly tan head. Nose is German malts, creamy, raisin, maybe a hint of smoke. Taste matches, dark malty, some dark fruits, brown sugar, almost a toffee on the finish, a hint of smoke. Tastes very German, both yeast hop and malt profile are classic doppelbock. Creamy yet thinish mouthfeel. Very good

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle thnx to biersmurfke. Pours dark, very dark clear caramel brown. Smell is earhty leaves, bit caramel. Taste is rather bitter. Sharp, yet elegantly complex.... High carbo. Very rich, but all aspects are subtile. An agreeable beer, to say the least. I am obligated to admit that i am impresse, given the fact these styles of beer are not my favorite.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
- Cuerpo / Sabor: Entrada ligeramente dulce.

4.3 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Deliciosa, cheirosa, cremosa! Colarinho belíssimo, marrom. A cerveja bem tostada, fortes notas de café. Amargor é balanceado com um pouco de doçura que disfarça o álcool. Ótima carbonatação e textura. Merece muito repetir!

Aroma: Dark malts, very malty, light caramel
Appearance: solid black, tan head
Taste: Heavy sweet, light bitter
Palate: medium to full body, creamy texture, average carbonation
Overall: Very malty, slight roasted malts. Very rich. Slight fruity or raisiny taste. Very sweet. The perfect example of a Doppelbock. A very slight chocolate taste. No hop aroma or bitterness. Very smooth and warming impression. Can’t taste the alcohol.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours deep copper from 12 oz bottle with full tan head. Malty, warm aroma. Tastes appropriately sweet with deep complex malty flavor to follow, hints of figs, plums, chocolate. Not much on the hops. Warm alcoholic mouthfeel with full body. Fantastic beer from a legendary brewery. Not designed for mass consumptions, though beer doesn’t get much better than this.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
33cl bottle at O menu café bar in Sintra, Portugal. It pours a dark-brown colour with a bubbly beige head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is very smoky, dark fruits, caramel, molasses, syrup, herbs and some oaks. Taste is sweet, caramel, smoked stuff, raisins, syrup, dark fruits, plums and a little hoppy. It has a medium to low body with average carbonation with a slight dry and hoppy finish. Definitely one of the best German beers I’ve tasted. I will drink this again in the future.
