Ayinger Oktober Fest Märzen has a deep golden color tinted with amber. It is lightly sweet with a malty nose balanced with floral hops. Its medium to big body and alcohol is not overpowering. The soft dryness comes from long maturation.

Orange clear beer, little darker than your average German Helles. Little white dense head which disappers quickly leaving lacing on the glass. Aroma is a bit like a bulk lager, maizey starchey sweet with some nice grassy hops as well. The taste is fortunately cleaner with maltiness, sweetness and crisp bitterness. The finish is medium long and bitter with a little alcohol coming through. Mouthfeel is smooth and thicker than medium. This is the kind of beer I would imagine drinking in Germany from a liter pint glass.

Light amber color. Some phenolics in the nose but they were not prevalent in tasting (thank goodness.) Slightly sweet and a bit watery. Not too impressive on the palate, although it did have a smooth character that I appreciated. Overall though, I just wasn’t that impressed.

Apricot in appearence with a sturdy white head. Light caramel aroma with a very subtle hop character. Very thin mouthfeel with just a hint of caramel in the taste. Not anything to get excited about. It’s not the best Oktoberfest I’ve ever tried. This is missing the clean sweetness that one would expect from this style.

UPDATED: OCT 5, 2008 (Draft @ GM, HOU): Pours an amber body, orange. Whitish head, small, diminishing. Malty sweet aroma, fruity. Not very strong. Fruity, flowery, malty. Some light fruity, malty taste.

Appearance: Served in an Ayinger glass, this beer pours a deep golden body with a frothy, off-white head. Very active bubbles. Smell: Light bready, toffee-scented aroma. Maybe some apples, too. Taste: Whoa, well, the malts are fairly played down flavor-wise. What remains is a restrained doughy flavor with a floral hoppiness. Noticeably more musty than other Oktoberfests. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Low carbonation - nearly flat. Slight alcohol warming comes through in the finish. Drinkability: Not nearly as moving or stirring as some other Oktoberfests available.

on tap-pours a thin white head and gold color. Aroma is light/medium malt-honey, faint spice hops. Taste is light/medium malt-honey, secondary earthy/spice-hops, some bite/copper. Hops is the after taste.

Clear light amber with an off-white head. Scent of honey and malt in a refreshing combination, later turning to floral hop aromas with malt. Light yet robust flavor with unassuming mouthfeel. Very good Oktoberfest - the only beer of the style that’s impressed me yet.

Bottle. The pour was a light clear amber with a huge (3-4 finger) white foamy head that had good retention and fairly good lacing. The aroma was very light and mild of a toasted biscuit malt, a mild floral hop and a light doughy yeast with a hint of caramel. The taste had an extremely light sweet malty presence from the start and finished about the same with a nice note of caramel at the end. The flavor was left hanging around for a nice long while after the swallow. Mouthfeel was surprisingly light in body and watery in texture with a fizzy carbonation. Overall an Oktoberfest that is super light in body and flavor. Although a tasty brew it could have used a little more of both.

Smells a tad stale and yeast, with some wheatyness. First hits the tongue with the same yeastyness, but is abated by the carbonation and wheatyness. Oily but light.

pours light copper orange, smallish head, some subtle streams. Malts on the nose. Drinks with 8/10-sweet malts, hops, caramel, finishing clean and malty bitter. Low-med complexity, medium depth, decent carry, decent drinkability. Decent balance and body.
