Ayinger Oktober Fest Märzen has a deep golden color tinted with amber. It is lightly sweet with a malty nose balanced with floral hops. Its medium to big body and alcohol is not overpowering. The soft dryness comes from long maturation.

Clear golden color right out of the bottle, with a modest head and nose – isn’t there supposed to be a fine German malt aroma? There are overtones of toffee in the medium-bodied beer but these are just as mild; the clean lager taste is quite dry with a bitter aftereffect. Carbonation is high. Doesn’t match its reputation.

(bottle) A great disappointment based on prior ratings. My sample fell short in every category. The sweet malt overcome by tart & bitter flavor with some skunk. Perhaps an old bottle or poorly conditioned but among the bottom of this style for me.

Light, malty, crisp. Very sessionable. I could use more malt but it lives up to it’s style and I would recommend it.

UPDATED: AUG 30, 2007 (Bottle) Pours an orangish-amber with a thick foamy head. Okay Oktoberfest brew, expected much more from an Ayinger brew.

500 ml bottle, but says 5.6% abv. Pours a gold color with a small, clingy, beige head that slowly fades. Taste is of caramel, malt and some hops. Similar aroma Has a good bitterness to it and is a little sweet. Has a foamy mouthfeel. Easy to drink and fairly enjoyable. Not as great as what I thought it would be. Neat looking bottle and cap.

pours an amber color with a malty aroma. A slight bitterness in the taste, with a floral finish. This beer was okay for a Marzen, I was excited by its appearance but was let down by its taste.

Pours a reddish orange. Thin head. Aroma is candy sweet. Light and easy to drink. Could use more malt body for me. Ends up too sugary.

Serving: from tap at Doyle’s Public House. Aroma: lightly malty. Appearance: large, frothy, off-white, initial head with no lacing and fully diminishing longevity. Hazy, flat, medium-yellow body. Taste: moderately malty, initial flavor and heavily sweet finish with average duration. Palate: light-to-medium body, oily texture and soft carbonation. Overall: too sweet for me. I wouldn’t drink this again.

bottle/ orange with a fat bubbled head. charcoal and caramel aroma taste is bitter in the forefront sweet caramel is there but is hidden by the bitter. leans a bit to far to the bitter side for me with this style.

On tap 9/7/07, a little lighter in color than I like in an Oktoberfest, big fluffy white foam. Flavor is good and balanced from what I could get from it, way too carbonated. Damn shame about the carbonation, tonight was about perfect for enjoying a good Oktoberfest on the deck.
