COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ayinger Oktober Fest Märzen has a deep golden color tinted with amber. It is lightly sweet with a malty nose balanced with floral hops. Its medium to big body and alcohol is not overpowering. The soft dryness comes from long maturation.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 500ml bottle into a big mug. There appears to be no freshness date on the label. Appearance: It has a rich deep golden color with very good clarity and some nice carbonation flowing up to the head. The head has a creamy off white color and rises up tall in the glass before slowly settling down to a nice foamy cap. Smell: In the nose there are some sweet bready and light toasted notes with light grain and some floral/spicy hops. Taste/Palate: The flavor has a very enjoyable malty character. There is mild sweetness, bready and light toasted grain notes, pie crust and very light caramel notes. This is balanced by some mild bitterness and notes of spicy/floral hops. The hops turn more leafy and mineral like in the finish which is crisp and refreshing. Its body has a solid medium to full feel with well balanced carbonation. Notes: This is a very well made Oktoberfest. To me it’s like a Munich Helles Lager but a little deeper in color, richer and fuller in flavor and body with the same wonderful drinkability.

A little above your average ’average’ Octoberfest brew, and gets tastier after a while, but not a market leader.

Bottle served in a lager glass. Pours clear, watery, dark orange with a short head. Nice aroma of bready malt. Medium sweet flavor of nutty, toasted malt. Medium body, average carbonation, creamy-oily texture, and a long, malty finish. Excellent amber lager.

Bottle from Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours light amber with a modest beige head and a bready aroma. There is a toasty malt flavor with a dry slightly bitter finish. This is a well-balanced brew that is easy to drink.

Bottle pours orange gold with white head. Aromas of caramel malty bread. The taste is similar with a musty German lager flair and a very smooth finish. Full and hearty, this makes American lager look puny.

Single bottle purchased from a Co-op Liqour Store on 12/27/2011. Colour: Light brown and orange with medium white head. Nose: Grassy hops, light caramlled malt, spring vegetation, white pepper. Taste: Medium sweet, mediumbitter, medium-light sour. Huge grain, lots of caramlaized barley, spiced citru s. A solid bitter grip late. This is extremely well crafted and just plain great beer.

500 ml bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours hazy golden orange color with a nice 2 finger fairly dense off white head with good retention that reduces to a thin cap. Some spotty lacing on the glass as well. Aromas of big bready malts, caramel, herbal spiciness, toasted malt, and light apricot fruitiness. Classic Oktoberfest aromas, very nice stuff. Taste of caramel, toffee, biscuit, herbal spiciness, toasted malt, and light fruitiness. No bitterness present; with lingering notes of caramel, toasted malt, biscuit, and herbal spices on the finish for a bit. Great flavor balance and maltiness; with absolutely no cloying sweetness. Medium carbonation and body; with a slightly creamy and smooth mouthfeel. Alcohol is extremely well hidden with hardly any noticed at all. Extremely drinkable and smooth as expected for the style. Overall this is a great Oktoberfest and one of the best I have had yet. Great balance and great malt flavor.
