COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Ayinger Ur-Weisse is an old-fashioned wheat with some fine roasted malt to give it more color and flavor than golden hefe- weisse. It has an immense crown of lovely foam held proudly above a robe of translucent amber. On the palate, malt and yeast predominate, with a delicious balance of fruit and bread-like yeast. The taste is complex, with suggestions of soft fruit, apple, and, in the finish, perhaps, even cloves.

500mL bottle. Pours cloudy with lots of visible carbonation. Head is loud and dynamic. Aroma is clove, yeast. Slightly spicy, bready yeast, banana is there somewhere. Boring.

Bottle 50cl, a cloudy brown beer with good head. Nose is very fruity on banana and yeast like. Aroma is sweet, well malty, cereal like, fresh bread, wheat like, toasted but not much for a dunkelweizen, creamy, body is malty too, a great weissbier. Finish is on sweet malt and wheta and very fruity.

Bottle. Pours an opaque light brown. Looks like unfiltered apple cider. Aroma of banana, cloves, and apple. Most noticeable flavor is green apple. Also notes of clove and banana. Biting carbonation. Medium body. A very tasty beer.

My goodness this was one flavorful brew! This excellent brew is chock full of ripe apple flavors and I’m already wishing I had me a hot apple pie to pair this up with! But this brew seemed like an apple pie in disguise! Loads of apples, cloves and other spices fill this brew from start to finish and long afterward! When ya find some of this brew, get a few bottles and enjoy!

Bottle. Seemed to be more of a dark German Hefeweizen than a true Dunkelweizen. A balanced beer that was very drinkable. Another good offering from Ayinger.

Bottle. Very mild toasty yeast and clove aroma. Cloudy amber color, foamy head. Overall very good hefe, not dark... A light dunkel. Refreshing, not as sweet as a straight hefe. Very good.

UPDATED: SEP 24, 2011 Nice Weizen with a toasted banana and cloves character that’s perceivable both on the nose and palate. Smooth, clean, and very drinkable.

500ml bottle - $3.29 at Total Wine & More in Alpharetta, Georgia.

Appearance: Pours a clouded, dirtied tan body with a near-white, expansive head.

Smell: Fruity, malty nose with some traces of honey on morningtime wheat toast, a dusty yeastiness, and popped clove buds.

Taste: Faintly tangy wheat malt at the start, a moderately sweet inclusion of both wildflower honey and light-colored caramel before some fruity tastes of Gala apples, bananas, and pears. Very low, fairly brief tartness present. Light clove accent (certainly less than was present in the aroma). Very subdued bitterness. Soft but also a bit of carbonated crispness on the sweetish, lightly fruity finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium-plus carbonation. Fairly smooth on the tongue.

Overall: Quite pleasant and quaffable, one of those moreish beers where you clear through the entire bottle pretty quickly. This just might beat out Weihenstephaner’s dunkelweizen for me.
