Our Ayinger Ur-Weisse is an old-fashioned wheat with some fine roasted malt to give it more color and flavor than golden hefe- weisse. It has an immense crown of lovely foam held proudly above a robe of translucent amber. On the palate, malt and yeast predominate, with a delicious balance of fruit and bread-like yeast. The taste is complex, with suggestions of soft fruit, apple, and, in the finish, perhaps, even cloves.

I poured this into a weizen glass. The appearance was a fairly light glossy slightly golden bronzed amber of sorts with a fairly decently two finger white foamy head that dissipates within about less than a minute. There’s barely any lacing. The smell makes up for the appearance since it just didn’t seem just quite dark enough for a dunkelweizen, anyways, here’s what I got, a nice banana estery clove-like goodness gently gracing itself into a fairly sweet German maltiness, very nice. The taste takes the previously mentioned flavors to town and just makes a nice sweet sticky banana-like aftertaste to coat the finish and leave it somewhat dry. On the palate, this one sits right at a medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability running about it. Overall, other than the look, it smells, tastes and has a great mouthfeel, I say if you see this don’t pass up on it even though it doesn’t seem quite as dark as most dunkelweizens I’ve had.

0,5l Flasche.

My last of the d.weizens at wob cap hill. Pours a deep amber, aroma is sweet bakery bready and slightly hickory bacon and apple. Sips medium full with malt body and flavor up front. Carbonation is pronounced and tingly on the tongue. Middle leads to a slight spiciness that evens out the malt sweetness nicley. Finish is Big malt and toasty, bready, with slight hop flavor to round it out. Caramel and toast linger. Alcohol isn’t noticeable, even at cold temp. And 5.8 is decent. Overall malt forward, nicely carbonated, easy drinking caramel/toasty wheat brew.

Bottle @ Die kleine Bierstube, Aarhus. Pours cloudy amber with small off-white head. Clear aroma of malt, yeast and banana. Sweetish taste of malt and banana, with sourish, grainy notes and bitter, hoppy touches. Rich body. Sour-sweetish aftertaste. Well-balanced and nice. A decent Dunkelweizen.

UPDATED: AUG 24, 2014 Appearance: This beer poured a nice cloudy, golden almost amber color. The head was fairly large when first poured, about two fingers worth and it slowly came down to about a half a fingers worth. It was an eggshell white head that was very fluffy. Aroma: Sweet banana and spice aroma that was very pleasant. I could pick up on some subtle malty aromas to it as well. Taste: You can taste some banana bread like flavors as well as some underlying malty flavors. The flavor finishes off with a little clove and nutmeg. Mouth feel: Great mouth feel. Has a perfect amount of carbonation, light body. It defiantly has a creamy feeling to it, and a nice crisp finish. Awesome brew all around!

Beer pours the color of honey comb and tastes like honey as well. Light, barely noticeable palate that goes down smoothly. Taste isn't quite as good as Brauweiss but definitely worth drinking. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Ayinger is the quintessential German Dunkel. The color is brownish-amber with a creamy-tan head. The rich wheat malt provides aromas and flavors of bread, banana, bubble gum, apple, and subtle cloves. Simple but delicous. Don’t expect to keep glass of this around for very long.
