COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Ayinger Ur-Weisse is an old-fashioned wheat with some fine roasted malt to give it more color and flavor than golden hefe- weisse. It has an immense crown of lovely foam held proudly above a robe of translucent amber. On the palate, malt and yeast predominate, with a delicious balance of fruit and bread-like yeast. The taste is complex, with suggestions of soft fruit, apple, and, in the finish, perhaps, even cloves.

500ml bottle NO DATE CODE. Apparently they give a freshness date on German sold bottles but for us in the US. Anyway, a dark golden with a thick white head which doesn’t last very long. Citrus, white pepper and yeast in the aroma with some faint spicy notes. Medium bodied with a low carbonation and slightly slick finish. Flavor is on the sweet side, with some fruit and light bitterness. Not sure how fresh this one is but I’m guessing it’s not. Really would like to see some decipherable date coding on these bottles.

Beauty of a pour as expected from the Bavarian masters. Hazy copper-gold beer adorned with a super creamy, thick, white head. (This went into a Guinness glass out of necessity; wish I had a weizen glass.) Aroma is so delicate and delicious: a perfect blend of banana, bubblegum, and yeast. Outstanding refreshment factor: palate is dead-on balanced. Bubblegum flavor comes through delectably. A bit of lingering spice on the finish. This is one of the beers that got me super fired up for my trip to Germany last year; finally getting to the official review and I’m remembering why. I love Ayinger: probably my favorite German beer. Must visit the brewery next trip.

Bottle thanks to weihenweizen, pours a cloudy golden with a decent white head and nice lacing through out the glass, aroma is full of spices mixed in with clove and banana with a little bit of funk mixed in, the flavor has great fruit notes with the sweet malt and other spices, delicious.

500ml bottle. Best before 12/11. It pours a darker hefeweizen color, not quite as dark as a typical dunkelweizen, it is a ur-weisse (traditional/pre-modern weisse) after all. It is cloudy with a foamy, creamy-looking off-white head. The smell is dominated by bananas with just a hint of clove and wheat. The flavor continues the banana theme. This is just a banana bomb and then some. There is some clove , some apple, and some lemon, yes but the dominant yeast flavor here is banana. There isn’t much in the way of roasted malt in the taste. There is a slight bit of hops that round it out. This one is delicous x 10, it is a hot day in Munich today and you would be hard-pressed to find a better thirst-quencher. Screw the strawberry-lime-derpaderp, just let the yeast do it’s thing and you’ll get this. World-class.

Perfectly balanced flavor that is pleasant to feel (in taste) for banana, no unpleasant odor, excellent beer in summer days
