3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 CharlesDarwin (2570) - Peace Dale, Rhode Island, USA - SEP 4, 2006
<!-- p -->My neighbor opens a pack of stale banana bubblegum, then cleans the gum from the soles of his shoes. Only hexane gets that out. I froth up the natural shaving cream and spread it over my henna and amber beard. After, a shot of bananas ninety-nine on the side with a glass of sherry on the rocks. It’s ethereal, as I heard wind pipes curve with faint sound. A trained monkey peels a banana and hands it to me. Quite ripe. I follow this with an unripe green apple. The stem smacks long.
<!-- p -->This beer seems a little pale for the style, but this is probably an ancestor to all the styles I’ve had, so this may not matter. I’ve nary had a beer where the fruit flavors were so articulate and on point. The banana and apples are acute and dominating. The mouthfeel is vacuous and escalating. A real pleasant feeling. A generally delectable ride through dunkelweizen land.
4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 crossovert (2547) - Wisconsin, USA - JUN 27, 2011
500ml bottle. Best before 12/11.
It pours a darker hefeweizen color, not quite as dark as a typical dunkelweizen, it is a ur-weisse (traditional/pre-modern weisse) after all. It is cloudy with a foamy, creamy-looking off-white head.
The smell is dominated by bananas with just a hint of clove and wheat.
The flavor continues the banana theme. This is just a banana bomb and then some. There is some clove , some apple, and some lemon, yes but the dominant yeast flavor here is banana. There isn’t much in the way of roasted malt in the taste. There is a slight bit of hops that round it out.
This one is delicous x 10, it is a hot day in Munich today and you would be hard-pressed to find a better thirst-quencher. Screw the strawberry-lime-derpaderp, just let the yeast do it’s thing and you’ll get this.
World-class.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Swalden28 (2541) - McKinney, Texas, USA - SEP 7, 2008
Bottle from Kegs & Barrel in McKinney, TX. Pours a dark cloudy gold. Aroma has light notes of bannana. Flavor has some bannana notes and a nice wheat malt backbone, lightly sweet, seems to have a very light pepper spice as well. Mouthfeel is light and soft with high carbonation. Over all this is a nice and balanced beer.

Smooth summer style beer with a nice hint of sweetness to it. Decent color and head tops off this spicy finished beer. Good stuff.

Thanks to Ross for the pour. Cloudy brown color. Wheat and malt on the nose. Same body with a yeasty bite.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 travita (2535) - Frisco, Texas, USA - MAR 12, 2008
Bottle. Deep copper in color with the usual cloudiness of a wheat beer. Aroma is fruity (specially banana). Flavor is fresh with the same bananas coming through and finishes with a slight wheat taste at the back of the throat.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 SHIG (2530) - Osan, SOUTH KOREA - MAY 18, 2007
Bottle: Wow reddish brown but not really, the color is so mystical to me, the off white cream head was just topping on this cake. The aroma of wheat and fruit is wonderful. The taste is roasted malt and fruit that bites at the taste buds. This has to be one of my favorite German beers. I cannot imagine why this is not closer to a 4 on the scale!
