Clear amber body, big frothy off-white head, It collapses in very neat looking pockets that give it a very unique look. Huge ripe banana aroma. The flavor is straight up banana and wheat. The palate is bigger than its lighther cousins. A nice but by no means great beer.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 TheBeerOrg (1979) - Crestwood, Kentucky, USA - MAY 8, 2005
UPDATED: AUG 30, 2006 Combined rating from bottles and Munich brewhouse - Pours dark caramel (light brownish red) with a thicky foamy off-white head. Aroma of cloves, toffee, apples, banana, lightly toasted bready malts, and delicate spices. Taste is all about the spicy yeast. Phenolic notes of cloves, pear, and apple. Sweet chewy initial taste becomes more dry and influenced by the wheat malt. There’s plenty of toffee, caramel sweetness, but it’s mostly hidden behind the immense yeastiness. Mouthfeel is soft and supple with lush carbonation. Complex and easy to drink. Certainly my favorite dunkelweizen, I just wish Ayinger would start dating their bottles.

Bottle (small sample). Light gold pour, banana and clove on the nose. Clove taste, medium mouthfeel, and a little tang to the taste. Pretty good.

Light amber color.medium head small amount of staying power but not much.Malty, yeast aromasome what spicy, and in some small way a little bread like as the description say's but very mildly.Malty taste, spicy, well hopped, with some over ripe tones of fruit like possibly apple but more like pear IMO with some lite olive tones to it as well.Over all it's a pretty decent brew and well worth thebucks to get more.

500 ml bottle. Hazy murky orange with a nice head that fizzled out quickly. Aromas of ripe banana and some sweet bread. Flavors fell off a bit. Still some banana, but the bitterness came over what I expected to be sweet. Some Alcohol flavor which suprised me since it’s not that strong. Still not bad.
4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 frankenkitty (1953) - Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA - DEC 21, 2005
An almost-tan head took a lifetime to settle over a dense, murky, brownish/copper-wheat body. Yeast particulate is diverse, from the silt that forms the haze to plastery chunks at the bottom, with little sea-monkeys bobbing about at mid-level. As far as the aroma, ’smoked banana’ smells much better than you’d imagine. Add to that roasted corn husks, clove, licorice and a touch of crawlspace (musty, earthen, moldiness). Flavor captures the hefeweizen essence of the aromas and sets it upon a substantially malted body... which gives a nice, hearty impression of a chocolate-covered banana. Thick, full-bodied and flavorful, with a creaminess in the mouth, it’s with beers like this that I can justify why ’Dunkelweizen’ is currently my favorite style.

Rating # 700- This bottle was provided by one great guy, and a great ratebeerian. Philip was generous enough to grab this for me, for an in person trade. I’ll drink this in a toast to his generosity. This bottle poured a very cloudy and murky deep amber/brown body, capped my a lucious and creamy foamy cap. In the nose, sweet banana is the main contender. Also in the ring arespicy cloves, and an underlying bready aroma. Flavours consist of sweet fruit and clove, apple pastries, and just a tad of a bitter bite. Smooth finish, with a slight fruity bite that lingers. This style keeps me wanting more. Many thanks again to Philip for the opportunity!
