COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Ayinger Ur-Weisse is an old-fashioned wheat with some fine roasted malt to give it more color and flavor than golden hefe- weisse. It has an immense crown of lovely foam held proudly above a robe of translucent amber. On the palate, malt and yeast predominate, with a delicious balance of fruit and bread-like yeast. The taste is complex, with suggestions of soft fruit, apple, and, in the finish, perhaps, even cloves.

Bottle. Medium amber with a thick head. Aroma of banana, caramel, clove, some biscuits. Crackery malt flavor with banana, clove, a touch of honey and caramel. Not quite dunkel, but the character is there. Great balance. Great stuff.

Pours a dark cloudy amber/light brown. Sizeable off-white head, mostly diminishing. Very similar to Hoegarden to me. Spices of banana, vanilla - very smooth and balanced. Great taste with little lacing staying through pour. Another great beer from Ayinger - SALUDE!

Hazed dark orange, foamy white head fades. Aroma of bright yeast and citrus, plum. Taste of dark fruit, yeast-spice, gum. Medium body, medium high carbonation. Been a while since I had a spectacular wheat beer and this is one here.

Location: 500 ml bottle from Gilly’s, 4/6/09

Aroma: Bread-like yeast, fruit - banana, some citrus
Appearance: Very hazy dark gold color, frothy white head
Flavor: Lots of yeasty bread malts, spice, cloves
Palate: Nice mouthfeel, this one is very complex for a wheat
Overall Impression: A really nice wheat beer. The complexity and richness are really nice for the style. Its an excellent example of a style, and a quality warm weather beer.

This is a great tasting beer, with the banana flavor that you would expect from a good hefeweizen mixed with malt and caramel. Pours dark brown with some white head. Medium body with very fruity banana aroma. Nice beer, definitely worth a try.

16.9 oz. bottle from John’s Grocery Iowa City Ar: Classic hefe aroma. Nice spicy clove notes along with touches of cinnamon, ginger, and banana. Ap: Pours an extremely hazy medium copper with a massive pillowy weizen head that sits atop my weizen. The head lasts quite a while. Pretty beer. T: Big burnt sugar note is quite a surprise. The flavor is like a spicy version of bananas flambe. There’s a bit of tartness on the finish to balance this beer, which is somewhat sweet. Edit: I just realized why this doesn’t taste like a Hefe: It isn’t one. Beer rating fail. P: Fizzy, chewy hefe body. O: Man, this is a very good dark wheat. It’s not particularly dark for a dunkles hefe-weizen. Upon pouring, I thought this was a standard weizen, and I was a bit confused by the burnt sugar flavor.

Pours into weizen glass with a thick, fluffy off-white crown. Hazy and caramel apple in hue. Smell is rich, roasty bread with yeast and sour subacid fruits. On first sip I note the palate - a tongue-tickling bubbly brew with medium-starched body. Flavor is stewed apples and pears with cloves, light sourdough, banana and a touch of honey. The cloves linger pleasantly and round out the alcohol found in the late palate and finish. This beer is warming and succulent, perfect for late summer and early autumn me thinks.
