COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Ayinger Ur-Weisse is an old-fashioned wheat with some fine roasted malt to give it more color and flavor than golden hefe- weisse. It has an immense crown of lovely foam held proudly above a robe of translucent amber. On the palate, malt and yeast predominate, with a delicious balance of fruit and bread-like yeast. The taste is complex, with suggestions of soft fruit, apple, and, in the finish, perhaps, even cloves.

Bottle. Seemed to be more of a dark German Hefeweizen than a true Dunkelweizen. A balanced beer that was very drinkable. Another good offering from Ayinger.

UPDATED: SEP 24, 2011 Nice Weizen with a toasted banana and cloves character that’s perceivable both on the nose and palate. Smooth, clean, and very drinkable.

Very effervescent. Not as dark as I was expecting. Banana and clove tasting. Pretty solid brew.

A: The pour is a little light for what I’m used to seeing out of a Dunkelweizen. A light copper color with a massive, soapy, off-white head. S: Starts off with the usual suspects such as banana, bubblegum, and clove. An almost sourdough breadiness which is a bit different as well. Some hints of floral hops are present as well. T: A big blast of banana and clove flavors to begin. Fairly sweet with a surprisingly prominent level of floral hoppiness. A subtle to moderate bitterness and some light citrus. Not quite as bready and hearty as I had hoped for. M: The body is medium with a pretty high level of carbonation that gives a slightly creamy feel. D: Dunkelweizens continue to be a bit of a weird style to me. This one was one of the better examples I’ve had, but still not quite as enjoyable as a traditional hefeweizen or weizenbock.

Refrigerated bottle. Pours a darker golden color than their regular hefeweizen. In general the taste is bready dark malts and is lighter in color than some other dunkelweizens. Nice head and some lacing. In particular the favor tones are dominanted by banana and has some clove. Best dunkleweizen I have had.

Amber / brown. Toasted bubblegum aroma with a slightly tart, cirusy taste. Finish is toast and dark fruit. Good.

500ml bottle in a weizen glass. Pours deep golden with a fluffy, off-white head. Aroma of wheat, toasted and cereal malts, and floral hops. Flavor about the same, with a little light fruit. Average texture. A decent beer.

Pours deep amber with thick off-white head and foamy lacing. Notes of wheat and citrus. Well balanced taste that is crisp and sessionable.
