COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Ayinger Ur-Weisse is an old-fashioned wheat with some fine roasted malt to give it more color and flavor than golden hefe- weisse. It has an immense crown of lovely foam held proudly above a robe of translucent amber. On the palate, malt and yeast predominate, with a delicious balance of fruit and bread-like yeast. The taste is complex, with suggestions of soft fruit, apple, and, in the finish, perhaps, even cloves.

500ml bottle - $3.29 at Total Wine & More in Alpharetta, Georgia.

Appearance: Pours a clouded, dirtied tan body with a near-white, expansive head.

Smell: Fruity, malty nose with some traces of honey on morningtime wheat toast, a dusty yeastiness, and popped clove buds.

Taste: Faintly tangy wheat malt at the start, a moderately sweet inclusion of both wildflower honey and light-colored caramel before some fruity tastes of Gala apples, bananas, and pears. Very low, fairly brief tartness present. Light clove accent (certainly less than was present in the aroma). Very subdued bitterness. Soft but also a bit of carbonated crispness on the sweetish, lightly fruity finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium-plus carbonation. Fairly smooth on the tongue.

Overall: Quite pleasant and quaffable, one of those moreish beers where you clear through the entire bottle pretty quickly. This just might beat out Weihenstephaner’s dunkelweizen for me.

UPDATED: JUL 11, 2008 OK, I’ve been waiting for this for a while, cause I had to save up to purchase it. Got it today at 3 Sons, Wexford. Upon opening, the aroma’s clean and not too detectable but does have a hint of yest in the background. In my poor steeler stein, it pours almost like American wheat but more sophisticated. Beautifully delicious creamy taste with no insulting tones what so ever. Finish is just great! Perhaps the perfect beer except for the price.

Very murky brown color with a large off-white fizzy head. Very complex nose, with banana and clove standing out, as well as apples and darker fruit smells. Creamy feel with a medium body. Carbonation is strong and fizzy. Semi-sweet taste of banana and spices with a lightly acidic finish. Complex and very drinkable.

Strong apricot, banana, and subtle clove bouquet. Very dingy gold color, thick off white head. Apricot and banana flavor, with a light lemon grass finish. Delicious, nicely tart, and refreshing. This is an outstanding wheat beer. It isn’t terribly dark for a dunkelweizen, but who cares? The taste rocks!

16.9 oz. bottle- Pours muddy orange with a nice white head, aroma is yeast and has a earthyness, just a very clean smelling beer. The flavor is a more malty weisse beer that still has the hefe chacacteristics, it is basically a German hefe with added caramel malts, very tasty. The aftertaste is very sweet like brown sugar, full bodied, creamy, carbonation is high, but not for the style. Good beer.
