Commercial Description:
The recipe for this beer goes right back to monastery traditions. The complex triple mash process using four types of malt gives the dark “doppelbock” its characteristic malty dominance and its close to black color. The storage time of 16 weeks produces a pronounced, well-rounded taste. Despite a high original wort content, the sweetness that is frequently present with doppelbocks can scarcely be detected. The first taste is of mild fullness with an accompanying coffee tone, which becomes more dominant with the aftertaste. Between November and January you can allow yourself to be completely won over by the excellent quality of the Winterbock.

Conspicuously devoid of a head but maybe I missed something as my girlfriend poured it. Mild aroma with meaty smoke and... is that asphalt? Medium feeling body but still full feeling malts. Slightly sweet finish.

Bottle from systembolaget. Small thin lace over a nice brown red ale. Malty aroma with a flowery first aroma that quickly dissapears. Malty taste with a sharp alcohole tart taste and a sweet maltyness that isn’t balances and gives this beer a small drinkability.

Bottle. Dark brown with a medium-sized tan head. The aroma is roasted malt. Malty, roasted, some coffee and sweetness. Medium to full-bodied, dry and some alcohol in the finish. Quite tasty, but I was expecting a bit more from this.

Appearance is very dark brown, you can see some red shades against the light. The head is beige, it lasts quite long and leaves a little lacing also. Aroma is, in my opinion, surprisingly mild with bready malts and sweet liquorice. Flavor is also very bready and malty, slightly roasted with hints of coffee and brown sugar. Also a bit bitter and dry in the end. Palate is quite full and sticky. A nice doppelbock.

500 ml bottle, named Winter-Bock. Dark brown colour with small, tan head. Malt, some chocolate and dark fruits in the aroma. Quite similar notes in the flavour too. Aftertaste of bitter hops and roasted malt.
