3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 BeerCast_Rich (1680) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - JAN 14, 2013
[cask at Cloisters Bar, Edinburgh] Black pour, with maybe some reddish tint (unless that’s the power of suggestion). Slightly off-white head. Aroma is deep chocolate malt, roasted chocolate pudding, some faint raspberry – the whole thing smells a bit like chocolate cake and raspberry coolis. The taste is fantastic though, great balance of the darkly roasted chocolate, some coffee, and the bitter, sharp raspberry comes through on the finish. I think the lack of chocolate syrup (as used in the Mint Choc Blacklock) really makes this beer, everything is balanced beautifully [03012013] [full disclosure, I helped make this beer. Reviewed objectively]
