Almost black, thin off-white head. Roasted malt aroma. Creamy and succulent mouthfeel. Taste has the biscuity sweetness, but also a serious dark bready roasted maltiness too, all topped off with a creamy mocha burntness. Light hopping keeps it crisp too. Superbly well balanced, excellent mild.
imdownthepub (4017), Banbury, Oxfordshire, Oxfordshire, England May 17, 2008 Cask conditioned at The Turf Tavern, Oxford. Black with cream head. Big, oatmealy beer almost a stout in flavour, burnt, dry coffee notes, qhite husky with touches of malty sweetness, biscuity and thick on the palate. Decent. Fin (2179), Merton, Oxfordshire, England Nov 28, 2007 Cask at Merton Winter Beer Festival, 2005 Going back through my travel log and Merton Beer Festival information tonight and picking up those I’ve not added yet. This is a really decent Mild that I’ve had many times since. Poured dark brown with a beige head, simple mild but nice coffee and chocolate aroma to this. Lovely roasted mlt taste and whilst uncomplicated very well done. cgarvieuk (2347), Edinburgh, Scotland Nov 25, 2007 Cask Aberdeen Beer festival 07 ... Deep black ... sweet cherry fruit nose ... lots of roast malts good character good depth. Doppelganger (1114), Oxford, Oxfordshire, England Sep 15, 2007 Updated: May 17, 2008Cask, Turf Tavern, Oxford. Deep brown, nice tan head. Caramel, toast, butter aroma. Perked coffee flavor, brown bread with a smear of marmite. Thinish, but not watery. Pleasant mild, and vastly better than in previous experience.
(Previous Rating: 15 Sept 2007 Cask, Far From The Madding Crowd, Oxford. Very dark brown, small tan head. Dark bread and rust aroma, nuts. Iodine sourness, mineral. Palate is soft and pleasant but everything else seems a bit off. Not sure if the cask is in the best shape, though most of the time FFTMC takes good care of their stuff. Have to hunt this one down again some time. 6/3/5/4 9)
