3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 blankboy (5140) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 29, 2013
Bottle [375ml] shared with HogTownHarry, jerc & mabel -- c/o j&m. Pours a clear pale gold with no head. Aroma has a burnt quality along with some apples and honey sweetness. Flavour’s better, with honey and apples but unfortunately, also lots of alcohol. Average bodied, oily mouthfeel. Quite mediocre indeed.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 jercraigs (6477) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 20, 2013
2012-01-18. Crisp dark yellow, headless, syrupy legs on the glass. 3+ Aroma is interesting, alcoholic, perfumey touches wood comes out strangely with notes of vanilla and sort of burnt popcorn character. Flavour is better integrated than the aroma, sweet (iphone typo) for honey character. Dryish finish has very light acidity to it. Lightly floral character. Flavour is much more pleasant than the aroma. Smooth average plus bodied palate is flat. Okay once you get past the aroma. Bottle aged about a year from Cloverleaf, Michigan
"But it’s such a pretty bottle..."
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 kbutler1 (1259) - Minnesota, USA - SEP 8, 2012
Bottle. Pours a very clear light golden yellow color. Very sweet aroma of apple and honey with a boozy back end. Medium mouthfeel. Very sweet taste with the residual honey and apple notes. About midway through the bourbon makes itself known in a somewhat harsh way. The transition for me is not very smooth and goes from extremely sweet to bourbon booze. Overall, it takes me a while to drink this down. Not one of my favorite B Nektar offerings.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 magsinva (600) - Virginia, USA - AUG 4, 2012
375 ml Bottle from app vintner - I love B. nektar, they do such cool thing with mead. I haven’t had anything bad from them and this is no exception. Batch #036, 04/2009. Pours a pale yellow with that smokey bourbon, vanilla oak, brown sugar, and sweet apples. Taste is sweet & smokey. Palate is sticky. Overall, yup!
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 fbm115 (183) - New Jersey, USA - MAR 6, 2012
Clear off white/yellowish color and still. Smells of apple juice oak, slight spirit and mild honey. Taste is dry juice, oak, vanillia, spirit, mild citrus, light honey. Overall dry and fairly refreshing. Slightly acidic. Overall enjoyable and something I would want to have again.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 OmegaX (971) - Florida, USA - FEB 20, 2012
I love mead. Nose is light, green apple and some bourbon and vanilla notes. Some of the aromas remind me of a moscato or sweet riesling. Almost buttery. This one pours a light yellow color. Flavors are green apple, caramel, some oak and bourbon, and a hint of buttery wine notes. Good stuff but $$$$.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Chipalsa (1090) - Florida, USA - FEB 20, 2012
This mead poured a clean, yellow body. The scent was sweet and spicy; thick with honey, cherries and wood. The taste was again, honey but with a nice finish of bourbon and citrus - almost like candy this one was. Must track down some more of these.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Martinus (1777) - Nijmegen, NETHERLANDS - JAN 27, 2012
Colour of white wine. No carbonation, no head. Aroma of apples, white wine (sauvignon blanc), light honey, quite floral. Flavour rather sweet, quite alcoholic, sweet apples, light vanilla, some bitterness and astringency following up. Finish is pure floral honey with a massive booze head. My first ever mead, and I quite like it.
(From 37,5cL bottle @ RBBWG 2012, Antwerpen. Thanks for sharing, sebletitje!)
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Bart (2915) - Brussels, BELGIUM - JAN 22, 2012
bottle @ RBBWG 2012 thanks to Sebletitje. Golden blond coloured mead with no carbonation and no head. Sweet sour fruity hinted aroma with touches of apple, pear, flowers and honey. Full palate; Finish is fruity with a slightly sweet-tart balanced oaky fruity hint and alcoholic touches. Not bad.
