COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ethiopian Harrar coffee is one of the oldest coffee beans still produced and is known for its distinctive fruity, wine flavor. To make this mead we cold-soaked 6 lbs of it for 48 hours to extract as much of the wonderful flavor and aroma as possible. Roastmaster and all-around coffee nut, Frank Lanzkron-Tamarazo (owner of Chazzano), provided his consultation for this first collaboration between the two Ferndale, MI companies. The coffee was selected to pair perfectly with the earthy Michigan wildflower honey. Serve at cellar temperature.

Light brown pour. Honey and coffee and nuts. Man the flavor is just crazy. Tons of coffee and roasted nuts with some dark toast. Interesting as hell.

Bottle. Pours light brown. Nose/taste of honey, fresh coffee, vanilla and sweet tea. Mouth feel is sweet - lots of tea and fresh coffee. Finishes with some fresh coffee and honey. Medium body.

This poured an amber color almost red with no head at all. Aroma was of lots of sweet honey, roasted coffee beans, very intriguing blend on the olfactory. Flavor was a bit disappointing compared to the aroma. Nice coffee flavor, but the honey is just to sweet and cloying, if this was more dry but had the same coffee flavor, it would be awesome stuff, still a solid mead.

pours a deep golden red brown hue that is still. the smell is a blast of roasty coffee mocha with rustic honey notes. taste is conflicting here, my tastebuds can’t handle whatever it is. coffee then an acidic twinge, rustic honey alcohol and ends with a strange bitterness. lingering mocha after taste. coffee roasty bitterness, perhaps? mouthfeel is alright but there is that bitterness. I love coffee and love mead. on the other hand coffee and mead.... not so much...

2oz sample poured at bad apple. Again, nice!... Pours a transparent maple copper pour, obviously no head whatsoever, with a moderate leggy running down the side... Chocolate covered coffee beans being quite assertive upfront and tends to shy away from any mead lying underneath which again I don’t mind... Flavors are sweet honey and ashed out coffee upfont and through the middle and then transistioning out with a honey/coffee finish. Somewhat syrupy body but the coffee was a bit overtaking.

375 mL bottle. This is a still mead, pouring a golden orange with a very light haze. Rich earthy, nutty roasted coffee aroma with a suggestion of honey. Lots of coffee bitterness in here. Still a nutty and earthy roasted coffee flavor building over time, and the honey adds some sweetness. I like it, but it’s definitely a slow sipper with the strength of the coffee.

Cobalt blue bottle. Pours a slightly hazed burnished gold with lots of tiny air bubbles that seem to hang in suspension in the glass and then very slowly rise to the surface. Pleasant aroma of fresh coffee and sweet honey. The flavor is again fresh coffee and sweet honey and the two blend well together. A bit of a slow sipper on this one given the sweetness of the honey, but a nice way to start the day!

Bottle shared by Puddintane at Muckfest II on 6/25/11. Pours clear amber with no carbonation. Nose is coffee and nothing else. Coffee and honey flavor with a dank sweet finish. Kinda strange, but interesting.

5/25/11. 375mL bottle courtesy mlunger12. Very pungent burnt coffee aroma... almost too much. Like a freakin’ cigarette. Very sweet honey mead flavor with lingering smoke and coffee. Weird.

pours a clear dark peach with no head, one of the best looking meads I’ve seen... the nose is amazing and completely catches you off guard because it doesn’t like there would be any coffee, but the nose is 100% high quality coffee, some of the best coffee notes ever, this is totally one noted though, nothing but coffee... the taste is totally unsuccessful as its a terrible combination of honey with a coffee finish, way to sweet and basically just disgusting... pass
