COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ethiopian Harrar coffee is one of the oldest coffee beans still produced and is known for its distinctive fruity, wine flavor. To make this mead we cold-soaked 6 lbs of it for 48 hours to extract as much of the wonderful flavor and aroma as possible. Roastmaster and all-around coffee nut, Frank Lanzkron-Tamarazo (owner of Chazzano), provided his consultation for this first collaboration between the two Ferndale, MI companies. The coffee was selected to pair perfectly with the earthy Michigan wildflower honey. Serve at cellar temperature.

375 ml bottle courtesy of brad. Pours a translucent brown. Nose of coffe and fruit. Taste follows with a honey finish. Coffee has held up fairly well over time, but some of the acidity has faded.

Bottle at Coppertail Brewing during the RBWG 2015 Grand Tasting. Clear golden brown. Aromas of bitter coffee, roast, honey. Tastes of coffee, honey, roast. Medium-light body with a dry finish. Interesting combination.

Tasted during RBWG grand tasting. Thanks to Ferris. Clear orange amber color. Little white head, some bits of lace. Really awesome coffee, honey. Moderate to bigger sweet taste. Bigger body, kind of slick. Fun, very enjoyable mead. It works.

Clear medium orange yellow color with virtually no head. Aroma is moderate to light heavy honey, coffee - dusty coffee, wood. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a long duration, dusty coffee, coffee bitter, honey sweet. Body is medium, texture is watery, carbonation is flat, finish feel is light alcoholic. [20140927]

Has an impressive amount of coffee hanging around for such an old mead. Creates a weird juxtaposition between the honey sweetness and the sort of earthy coffee tones, not bad but not great.

Bottle with a sticker stamped: 1220511.
Appearance: The body is an amber to copper with a velvety haze.
Aroma: The aroma is huge and distinct of coffee while my glass is near a foot away. Up close the aroma reminds me of mild vanilla with huge earthy iced coffee aromas. Gosh the aroma is so incredible with so much coffee.
Taste: The intro is of mild honey but develops into a slightly bitter/sour cold black coffee flavor with a chewy underlying sugar flavor. The intro is really bland, but once this kicks in itís like a black iced coffee with too much sugar. The finish lingers slightly sour like old coffee.
Palate: Near thick with no carbonation.
Overall: Maybe this is too old, Iím guessing itís from 2011, as the coffee has become a bit stale and sour, but this is probably amazing fresh. The coffee aroma is surreal.
