COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Simi Hendrix born Simian J. Monkenstein lived hard and drank well, one night in Belgium after a show during a wildberry induced purple haze Simian was mixing wildflower honey, tart Balton cherry juice and dry-hopped Styrian Goldings. The result? A Funky Belgian–inspired hopped cherry melomel. This revolutionary concoction was the inspiration for the mega hit ‘Funky Monky‘ sadly, Simi has disappeared into the French countryside but in his absence he has left us with an imperial libation to be treasured and savored. Don’t miss this its too funking good to pass up.

Bottle from trade with Sarro, shared with Bergen Beer Geek Tasting Crew feat. special guest star Hanne Frosta from Hanne På Høyden, Bergen @ BBGTC Mead Tasting, part 1 (we thought we’d do an all-night mead event but realized midway that we’d have to cut it in two parts, at least...too much stickiness in one evening... :-P) Pours a deep pink-hued red body with no head. Aroma is beet root, alcohol, grass and herbal cherry tones. Taste is peppery tart cherry tones with sweet syrupy honey notes in the back. Some grass and almonds. Smooth and full-bodied, with very soft carbonation. Very interesting and kinda good, albeit in a perverse kinda way - I find one half of my brain telling me that I enjoy this while the other half tells me I am SO WRONG in doing that. :-P

Tap at Dexters. Deep purple red. Big berry aroma. Mellow and quite drinkable, some honey tones. Not much to compare it to, sort of like a quality mad dog 20/20.

First "Meade", thanks Lisa! Pours ruby with pink fizz; fun colors. Aromas are boozey cherry juice, wine (a little ruby port like), yeast...no hops! This one goes down like juice, half way through and feeling the effects of 12% abv. Taste is cherry juice, honey, mild hop, with champagne like yeast finish. Honey coats the lips, cherry the tongue; all in all pretty tasty. Don't expect a hoppy beer, it's still a Meade! Fun to try! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle shared MrPickles...thanks Andy! - Pours ruby red with a thin ring of bubbles. Nose is deep, dark cherry, lots of baking spice, muted honey sweetness, and not really any hops. Taste is the same--big pungent, sweet cherry juice, light baking spice, honey on the finish, and again--no sign of the hops. A bit of sharp, spicy bite on the finish. Not sure if that’s the alcohol or maybe the hops coming through. Slick and smooth with no carbonation. Awesome stuff.

A hazed burgundy melomel with a thin white head. in aroma, a light kriek lambic with lactic cherries, sweet and smooth. In mouth, a nice kriek like mead with smooth light acidity, beautiful alcohol warmth, nice and sweet and delicious. On tap at When Pigs Fly, August 1, 2012

bottle from schiller 1/22/12. bright red. moderate legging. smells of yeast, honey, light cinnamon, flowers and rich cooked cherries. the flavor is the same but it has a nice balance of sweet/tart and borderline bitter with honey playing a secondary role. . it is rich and sweet but thin enough to be thoroughly enjoyable. 8/4/8/4/16
