COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Many years ago, a mysterious book was discovered by a group of friends in a Ferndale, MI basement. A translation of its contents revealed the recipe for an ancient beverage using mango juice, honey, and black pepper. What they didn’t realize was that creating the beverage had dire consequences. Stricken by fear after its compleation, the friends tried to contain the terrifying forces into this very bottle. Once opened, however, no one can say for sure if it can be conquered. Bottled, thanks to my pal Elwood62. Pours a clear, light chamois orange with no head. Aroma is strong of black pepper atop freshly cut mango and light cantaloupe. The tropical fruit notes become more flowery and perfumey the more you sniff it, the black pepper lending a subtle smokey edge. Flavor is lightly sweet, the pepper spiciness quick to wane into mildly flowery honey, juicy mango and white oak. Pepper returns in the finish, lending a slightly burnt woody note with little spice. The spiciness, however, does build as you drink it, leaving your tongue and palate slightly tingly. Really interesting. My mother always ate cantaloupe with black pepper on it, and I never saw the appeal. I realize this used mango, but it shows that flavor combinations of fleshy tropical fruits and black pepper do compliment each other. Should’ve listened to my mom.

The aroma is citrus. Pours a carbonated light red. The taste is sweet. The body is light, the texture thin, the carbonation fizzy - way too fizzy, the finish short. Overall not impressed with the carbonation, took everything away from it.

Light clear yellow pour w/ no head. Aroma is mango and light pepper. Sweetness also. Taste is Wow! Mango and pepper, with the sweet base, go together so wonderfully. Very refreshing. So glad I can purchase these meads in my local.

Pours almost clear as water with a few white bubbles. Aroma has notes of honey, sugar, candy and some fruits. Taste is medium to heavy sweet with a long mango and black pepper finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is flat to soft,

Bottle. A clear one, pale yellow in color, without carbonation. Lovely aroma with black pepper, mango, citrus hints and a faint honey touch. Some flowery touches, guess that’s the mango playing tricks. The flavor isn’t as peppery, but there’s some. Honey, flowers, mango and some citrus in the flavor. Quite dryish on the palate, with a little carbonation. Medium to full body. Lasting honeyish finish with mango and black pepper. Very tasteful and easy drinkable this one. Yummi. 140418

Like chile on mangos. Awesome. Light honey tinge, finishes with light sweetness. Awesome. I should drink more mead. On tap at DC Beer Festival.

Clear yellow-gold pour with a small, fizzy head, that fades quickly but is sustained somewhat by high effervescence. Aroma is mostly pepper, but there’s some definite mango sweetness and a hint of earth. Flavor is a little fruitier, mango up front, then sweet, fruity honey, then nice peppercorn, toast, a little stone fruit and increasing mango presence toward the finish. Light to medium body, juicy slightly sweet throughout, with a light, but blanketing and slightly sharp carbonation. Good stuff overall, I like the flavorings, but it could use a little more honey character.

[Bottle (500ml)] Pours a clear very pale gold with no head. Mild but pleasant aroma of apples and pepper along with honey and fruit. Flavour of honey first followed by mild pepper and some fruit -- simple but nice. Average bodied. Good and enjoyable.
