COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Many years ago, a mysterious book was discovered by a group of friends in a Ferndale, MI basement. A translation of its contents revealed the recipe for an ancient beverage using mango juice, honey, and black pepper. What they didn’t realize was that creating the beverage had dire consequences. Stricken by fear after its compleation, the friends tried to contain the terrifying forces into this very bottle. Once opened, however, no one can say for sure if it can be conquered. A cursory glance of my ratings will show that I am not the biggest fan or even rater of Mead, but this one is fantastic, with excellent hints of black pepper against a sweetness that is distinctly mango without being overbearing. I really love dried mango so this was perfectly up my alley and I wasn’t disappointed.

Bottle from Au Trappiste, Bern
Pale blond color. Light product, elegant, fruity, lightly sweet, floral, peppery, dryish in the final.
I’m not sure this should be called mead, but it’s a good drink.

Looks like white wine, no head. Fruity aroma. Fruity sweet cider taste, no carbonation. A bit bitter and hot spicy touch at the end. Refreshing, but it us difficult to notice that this is a beer.

Clear, straw appearance like a white wine. Smells like mango, jasmine flowers, black pepper, honey, apple, and a spice I can’t put my finger quite on, maybe basil or something. Tastes much the same, a bit of sweetness, a bit of tarntess and the black pepper fits in suprisingly well. Not much carbonation and kind of thin bodied Wasn’t sure how all of the flavors would work together but it seems like they pulled it off. The spice seems to help balance the sweetness

Bottle to stem. Bright clear straw with thin white film. A: apple, honey, tropical fruit. T: same, with black pepper coming through at the end. OK.

Aromas of black pepper, very floral, crisp apple. Clear greenish yellow. Pretty dry, peppery, honey and floral flavors. Light bodied, crisp.

courtesy of fiulijn - pale straw yellow color, aroma of cider, mango and apples; moderate body and a long honeyish and fruity finish with a late and long lasting sharp peppery presence - a mead with different layers, fresh and pleasant

Pours pale, bubbly straw yellow. Sharp aroma has fruity and honey notes, inviting a taste. Flavor is definitely different and refreshing - honey that is not overly sweet, mango, a bit of sour apple. Texture has, well, I suppose average viscosity and a subtle but lasting fizz. After the mead has headed downstairs, your mouth is still a-buzzin’. Black pepper peeps out in the finish. I definitely should try some more meads - only problem is they do tend to be rather spendy.

(Draught at Bishop’s Arms Folkungagatan, Stockholm, 24 Jan 2015) Pale yellow colour with frothy, white head. Fruity nose with notes of honey, birch leaves, spruce needles and mango. Fruity taste with honey, birch leaves, grass, mango, birch sap and a black-pepper touch that is fairly well hidden, but turns up as a certain heat after a while. Medium body, with a well balanced sweetness. Interesting and tasty. Quite nice.
