COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Once upon a time a giant was imprisoned inside a rye whiskey barrel. For over a year he sat in silence and total darkness and finally, he fell asleep. In time the world forgot about him. Until one day, a brave mead maker with a magical mustache discovered the giant, and put it in a bottle. At over 19% abv, this mead should not be taken lightly. Uncork the bottle and awaken the Sleeping Giant.

Bottle tasted at RBSG grand tasting post-tasting. Honey and good rye whiskey in the nose. Clear golden slight orange color. Awesome wildflower honey aroma in the flavor, love it. Moderate to bigger body. Smooth, kind of slick, lighter carbonastion. More slick finish. Awesome rye whiskey wildflower mead. Starting to see a distinction in this type of honey, and I dig it every time. 19%?! Hides ABV super well.

Bottle-thanks Adam. Had right after he shared bully guppy. Slightly hazy yellow. A-alcohol, spice, honey. T-follows. Warms on the way down, sipper.

Sample thanks to alum. A lot weirdness when Peter talks a out kissing a dude while I try to drink this mead. Probably why I don’t like mead but to each their own. Chill. Long dry honey finish.

Bottle. Thanks to Adam for sharing this. Clear white wine pour, no head. Aroma, oak, rye, some slight booze. Taste, wow, very sweet, oak, some heat from the booze but not much considering the ABV. Complex , sweet, very tasty.

UPDATED: JUN 30, 2014 Bottle shared at DLD 2013- who opened it? Can’t remember. Final rating of the day. Glad it was a light, summery palate cleanser. Pours a pale straw gold color. Honey for sure, with some grapes, vanilla, nuts, brown sugar, and whiskey warmth throughout. Full-bodied, with low carbonation and a sweet, chewy, boozy mouthfeel. Warms you up. Re-Rate: RBSG. Downgrade. Doesn’t live up to the memory. Too much grape character dominates, washing out the complexity I recall.

# 2000. Sampled courtesey of Sebletitje – Thx! 375 ml. bright Neon Blue B. Nektar body with a wonderful label. Looks like white wine to me maybe a bit paler – any mention of head is mainly a matter of habbit – not even bubbles appear here upon pouring. Aroma is incredible, mellow honey and white wine goodness, oak, vanilla, sweet, white flowers, wild white flowers,… Taste is an incredible sweet, delicate wild flowers honey, white flowers, sweetness from charred oak whisky barrels – actually picking up more on that than the whisky which I mainly get because I know what to look for, oak , highest quality white sugar (that is not really a think but yeah,…), very light apples, this stuff reminds me of a beautiful field in spring, it is like drinking that, sweetness covers the booze, you feel the heat sliding down your throat, very warming, silk thin and silk slick body, creamy,… like summer. A wonderful treat for my 2000th rating. Thx! & to anyone who ever shared a beer with me etc.
