Once upon a time a giant was imprisoned inside a rye whiskey barrel. For over a year he sat in silence and total darkness and finally, he fell asleep. In time the world forgot about him. Until one day, a brave mead maker with a magical mustache discovered the giant, and put it in a bottle. At over 19% abv, this mead should not be taken lightly. Uncork the bottle and awaken the Sleeping Giant.

Pours like a white wine, no carbonation. Honey, grass, oak. Very sweet, hides the booze well.

Bottle from 15’ Meadfest. Pours a bright golden yellow color with clear transparency. Practically no bubbles. A touch of honey sweetness with a big whiskey aroma. A very soft feel. A big boozy front until end here. Still a little sweet with the mouthfeel. Some spice comes up towards the end. Slow drinking and a bit hot but decent. Got some more to age.

Transparent light yellow, akin to a white wine. Honey and apple aroma with vanilla, oak, whiskey. Sweet, syrupy. Heavy booze and dessert like sweetness. Well done and flavorful in small doses. A good bottle to share.

UPDATED: OCT 31, 2014 Bottle: Thanks, Wade. Flat pour, slightly hazed light-straw color. Aroma of super boozy honey with a little bit of musty wood. Very boozy. Almost solvent-like. Taste isn’t solventy but there’s still a huge warmth to it. Seems more balanced, though, because it’s also super sweet. Tons of clover honey with lingering residual sugars. A touch of tannin, wood. But mostly booze & honey. Warming finish. Not bad, but there’s nothing really exciting about this.

Bottle thanks to mrebeks for sharing. Hazy pale yellow pour, still appearance. Aromas are musty honey, ginger, vanilla, and light whiskey. Tastes very smooth for a 19% abv mead. Fresh honey, light ginger, big vanilla. Slight booze in the finish. Really nice.

Bottle: The aroma consists of alcohol, light honey, and a hint of floral notes. It pours a slightly hazy dull yellow with no head. The flavor starts with a moderate honey. The finish has some vanilla with a hint of alcohol. It’s medium bodied with no carbonation. Overall, this doesn’t taste a boozy as it smells.
