Bottle conditioned. Black with red tints and a small beige head. Aromas are sweet roast malts with chocolate, fruit and licourice. Flavours are earthy, peaty roast malts with dark fruit and floral hops. Dry on the finish. A tasty mild.

Cask, The Devonshire Cat, Sheffield. Deep brown, slight ruby hue. Malt aroma, roasted with caramel. Creamy, sweet with a slightly fruity finish.

Tasted this in the Saltcot, Saltcoats (JDW) in June 2007. Cask, handpump dispense. Black in colour with hints of ruby around the edges and a thin buff head. Strong rich aromas of plain chocolate and roast coffee evident. Thin mouthfeel and good lacing. Dark malts give a smooth creamy mocha coffee, dark chocolate and raisin fruit, tastes far stronger than og suggests. Smokey aftertaste with spicy hops and roast grain notes. Finish is dry and bitter. An excellent session mild .

Clear dark black brown colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, light beige head. Aroma is moderate to light heavy malty, roasted, chocolate - coffee. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20110806]

Cask@The Elm Tree, Cambridge. Very deep rubyish black colour with a small beige head. Aroma is roasted malts, dark fruits, some mild notes of berries as well. Flavour is dark fruits, mild roasted notes with sweet malts, toffee and some slight wooden notes. Also has a quite bitter finish. Pleasant and nice mild ale.

Cask at the JDW on Victoria Station. Deep chestnut with a creamy tan head; aroma of burnt sugar with a trace of licorice; sweet cane sugar flavour with some licorice and leafy hops; then a dry finish. A pleasant mild.
