Cask at Alexander Graham Bell (JDW). A good looking stout with a toffee and chocolate aroma. Flavour has toffee, roast, and chocolate leading to a long dry finsh. Medium body.

Tasted this in the Salt Cot, Saltcoats (JDW) in October 2012. Cask, handpump dispense. Dull black in colour with a thick creamy off white head. Strong roast malt and burnt toast present in the short aroma. Creamy mouthfeel and good lacing throughout. Dark malts give a rich base of black treacle sponge, black coffee, bitter plain chocolate and a hint of root liquorice. Dusty hop resins present in the short bitter aftertaste with barley grain present. Long malty finish with dry almond notes evident in the mouth. This is a superb session stout and reminded me of Broughton’s Oatmeal Stout from long ago. Highly recommended.

Cask. The Postern Gate (JDW), York. Medium tan head with good retention. Reddish dark brown body, almost black. Roastiness, caramel, toffee, red fruit, hints of chocolate, some spice. Bitter, with just a hint of sweetness. Dry finish. Soft mouthfeel and creamy.

Cask - The Glass House (JDW), Norwich. Poured a near opaque brown with a dense, thick & creamy lasting, lacing beige to light tan head. Good coffee, dark fruits, tobacco & roasted malt aromas. Dry & bitter chocolate, roasted malt, coffee flavours with some tangy dark fruits beneath a light toffee & vanilla sweet overtone. Light to medium body, subtly carbonated with a lingering dry malt bitter finish.

Cask at the Sussex Arms, Twickenham Green - 19/05/12.
Fairly solid black with a tan head.
Roasted malts on the nose with chocolate as a back drop, pinch of coffee bringing up the rear.
Roasted flavour but also sweetish with chocolate. Well balanced.
Medium body, decent job.

Black, ruby edges, bubbly tan head, bit of lacing
Aroma - roast malts, dark malts, soft aroma 7 -> 6
Taste - bitter roasted malts, dark quite sweet caramel malts, touch of dark fruits, soft dark roast coffee, good 6 -> 7
Palate - soft carb, thinnish body, bittersweet palate - little oily but bit watery texture. Finish - quite bitter roast, coffee, fairly long lingering finish
Overall - thinnier body than normal for a stout - but this beer had a good flavour 12 -> 14 3.1 -> 3.3

Black, thin ruby edges, thin dark tan head, good lacing.
Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate.
Taste of roasted malts...espresso...burnt notes....a bit harsh.
Palate - Dry...roasted malts...burnt crust...body a bit thin...soft carb....finish has lingering burnt bitterness.
It’s OK - bit thin and over dry for me.
