A pleasant bitter beer with a strong roast malt flavour.
This beer is brewed using Pearl Pale Malt, Crystal Malt, Roast Barley and Hercules hops.

Clear dark brown color with a small to average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to light heavy malty, roasted, chocolate, fruity, light notes of licorice. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20090122]

From cask. Pours dark brown to black with a small tan head. Aroma is dark roasted malt and liqourice. Liqourice and roasted malty flavoured. Caramelish and slight spiced. Smooth and dark roasted dark malty. Hoppy and fruity into the far finish.

[Bottle conditioned] A black beer with a chocolate brown head. The aroma is sour - weird for a stout, more like a Flemmish sour ale. The flavor is also sour like Flemmish sour ale but with notes of chocolate and caramel.

Cask. Very close to black colour with small brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, some dark dry fruits, mild toffee and caramel malts. Flavour is liquorice, roasted malts, some fruits and wooden notes as well. Rather pleasant and quite complex for being 4.5%.

Cask @ the Harp, Covent Garden WC2. Pours a nearly black color with ruby hints and a small off-white head. Has a roasted malty chocoalte and caramel aroma. Roasted malty caramel flavor with sweetish chocolate hints. Has a roasted malty caramel and chocoalte finish.

Very dry stout. Mildy toasted malt middle and a very acrid bitter finish. Original rating 2.4

Chelmsford Beer Festival. Opaque dark brown beer. Residual tan head. Light crisp palate. Semi dry. Rich dark malt, bitter and somewhat roasty. Undertone of fruit and a little estery bubblegum. Dark chocolate and coffee. Minerals. A little hop fruit. Bitter aftertaste. Tasty and fairly complex.

Cask at GBBF, Day 4. Pours brown-black with a foamy, tan head. Dry, cocoa malt aroma with hints of lactic sugar. Medium sweet flavor, milk chocolate, some lacto, mild roast. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet finish, hints of scorched earth, ash and tobacco. Nice.
