Very dark redish brown with creamy beige head. Very soft carbonation. Light body. Nice smooth mouthfeel. Flavor is sweet, malty and it has a very slightly bitter aftertaste. I thought the name fits.

On cask as Shefford Dark Mild at Cloisters. Pours a dark brown colour with a thick tan head. Aroma is dominated by caramel with chocolate and roasty malt also. Similar flavours with moderate carbonation and a yeasty linger.

Cask at the Harp. Dark brown pour with a modest, off-white head. Strong roasted malt character in the nose. Flavor is lightly sweet with lots of dry, roasty malts. Light bodied with fine carbonation. In the finish some leafy bitterness and ash, mild sugar. Good stuff.

4 Deep red, tiny head.
6 Minerally, like the Shefford Bitter was, could be the local water.
3 Soft palate, carbonation low. Drying finish. Late finish liquorice and treacle.
12 Minerally dominated again, alas.

Clear light to medium to dark amber yellow orange color with a small to average to large, frothy - fizzy, good - fair lacing, mostly lasting - diminishing, white to off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, light to moderate hoppy, citrus. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average to long duration. Body is light to medium, texture is watery to oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20090807]
