Tasted this in Blackfriers, Glasgow in December 2007. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear russet red in colour with a thin creamy white head. Sweet malt in the nose and a smooth mouthfeel. Good lacing throughout. Pale malts deliver a fiery digestive malt base with juicy raisin fruit evident. Metallic hop resins impart a dry aftertaste. A good balanced session ale.

Cask, handpull at The Swan & Castle, JDW, Oxford 08.01.11 This was really quite smokey in the mouth although the aroma didn’t suggest that it we be like this. Amber in colour with a slight haze. In the mouth there is some bitterness to support the smokiness, aroma a touch clinical/chemical though in fairness it seemed to be served in pretty good nick as did the Mordue beer I also had. It’s fine but not as good as the Mordue Headmasters Xmas sermon. A5 A3 T7 P3 Ov12 3.0

Cask handpull, The Felix Holt (JDW), Nuneaton. Blonde with a thin white layer. Negligible lemon wine gum and herbal hop snout; taste apricot jam, weak grassy hop, rauchmalt with tea and dunked rich tea linger. Never had such a pale English beer with such a brazen Franconian beechwood note. But it works. Maybe my tongue’s playing tricks on me- nobody else has mentioned it. Clean, odd and tasty.

Cask at Wellington Arms, Bedford, where B&T beers are always served in top condition. Earthy malt aroma. Sweet fruit and malt taste with a slight bitter finish. Not particularly Christmassy, but a delicious, easy drinking beer. Gobbling Good Ale, as the pumpclip declares.

Cask in Blackfriars. Aroma is sweet, slightly apple sweetness and quite earthy, no hints of sulphur? Taste is bitter, malty, earthy with a floral hop finish.
