COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Van Honsebrouck is a family owned brewery in West Flanders Belgium. It makes a range if beers including Bacchus, a beer in the local style of the region. It is on this beer that the kriek and framboise is based, a premium fruit beer for which Belgium is well known. Hand wrapped and presented in half champagne bottles. This is a remarkable beer.

Pink grapefruit-coloured, medium head over deep red beer with a brownish sheen. Heavy, syrupy-sweet smelling, raspberry jam, raspberry juice. Nearly tart, sweetish-sourish flavour; raspberries, but rather like pressed, concentrated juice, jelly or jam. Not an artificial impression, however. Feels rather well-carbonated; fruit-filled, nearly refreshing when served cold. Surprisingly better than expected. Just the nose keeps disappointing, as well as this filament of syrup propping up all the time.

the aroma is fruity and spicy with shades of berries, sweet citrus and toffee... the taste is fruity, with notes of raspberries, plum and sour apple... the aftertaste is sweet, sour and dry...

Colour somewhere between ruby red and tawny brown with a tight beige head. Dominant raspberry flavour but not too sweet and even a little tart. Some underlying malt and slightly woody flavours. Pleasantly fruity and refreshing.

How: Bottle (375 ml) at home. Split 2-ways.

>>> Itís more in the carbonated raspberry juice territory than beer, but itís easy to drink and rather enjoyable.

+ Itís smell and taste like a burst raspberry juice / jam, but it doesnít feel too artificial.
+ Thereís a little acidity that make it easier to drink and it isnít too sweet either
It couldnít be much more simple/straightforward

Flavors: Burst of raspberries, mild leafy notes

375 from the Belgium in a box raspberry collection. Lots of raspberry. However itís not sweet and not tart or sour. Slight medicinal quality, yeast reminds me of something in a dark Abbey beer.

375 ml. bottle, shared. Dark, amber colour with a reddish tinge and a dense, off-white head. Sweet aroma with raspberries, caramel malts, sweet fruits, slightly wooden notes. Taste is sweet. Medium body with a creamy texture and a soft carbonation. Finishes slightly dry and fruity with raspberries and a wooden note. Pleasant and easygoing drink, lacks a bit finesse.

Served straight out of the fridge @ 4įC. Pours a clear dark purple (brown at the edges) with a medium beige head that leaves nice lacing. Nose is of raspberries for sure and doesnít feel too fake overall. Taste is moderately sweet (less than your usual sweetened framboise) and even a little tart. Body is medium and carbonation moderately high. Pretty enjoyable for what it is!

June 26, 2015. Bottle, best before september 3, 2016.
Clear brownish red with a medium dense off-white head, Aroma is light tart and sweet raspberries, cherry candy, light citrus notes and a slight note of cough syrup. Taste is medium sweet raspberries and cherries with a very light tartness. Finish is light tart, sweet berries, with a slightly dry, almost astringent note. Light to medium bodied, average small bubble carbonation.

The beer is a brownish burgundy color. The head is brownish pink and smallish, maybe a finger or so in height after a normal pour. Thereís some lacing and retention is ok. The aroma is fairly pleasant. Itís very jammy. Thereís a relatively mild cough syrup note, but it doesnít hurt the overall smell too much. Some caramel malt flavor in the background. Mostly big jammy raspberry, a bit sweet but not bad. The taste is odd and not good. Thereís a sweet raspberry juice flavor with nowhere near enough tartness. Simple sweetness, verging on splenda simplicity. Out of place woody bitterness. Mild caramel. More of that medicinal flavor. Pretty sweet. Itís fruity but thereís no depth or fullness to the fruit flavor. Not great. Pretty much no pucker. Carbonation is lower than expected. Itís a bit sticky. Aftertaste shows a bit of raspberry jam but also bleh malty sweetness. Iím not a fan.

Bottle from Sainsbury. Pours reddish brown with a fairly sizeable pinkish tan head. Aroma is overwhelmingly berries, a bit of dough and a hint of vanilla. Sweet-sour taste, incredibly fruity. Lovely sourish tangy hit at the end. I like the amount of carbonation. Quite tasty.

Poured from a bottle. Aroma is super jammy with a ton of raspberry character and a bit of a raspberry jello note. Light malt notes, but the aroma is pretty one dimensional towards the fruit. Pours a dark purple red with some light brown hues and a medium sized, fairly thick, slightly pink head that slowly recedes to a thin film that lingers. Flavor is fairly sweet with a light tartness. Lots of sweet raspberry notes with a medium light bitterness. Some raspberry seed notes. A hint of malt notes. Some lingering raspberry notes. Mouthfeel is medium light bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency from the seeds and low alcohol warmth. Overall, super fruity but fairly one dimensional. Too sweet for my preferences too, but doesnít finish very sticky.
